Shuts off after high rev acceleration -> neutralization

as the title says...

Whenever I take off at a light and reach up to 80 or 100 mph under hard acceleration (4-7k rpm's) and neutralize the car, it sometimes shuts off! First time I noticed it was when I started turning and the turning was stiff (no hydraulic pressure). I had to clutch-in and restart the car any time this happens.

I was wondering if it could be the MAF going bad from the stillen intake having too much oil or maybe due to the stillen grounding wires that I installed.

I don't know why it would only shut off after high revs. I had a MAF problem with my old car and the problem was that it would shut off at the light and never want to restart!

I'm not sure what to do. Any feedback - Please?

I drive an '05 6MT

Adrian

sounds exactly like a MAF/IAT, its not setting the MIL at all? and yes i see that all the time, aftermarket intakes get oil all over the electrode on MAF equipped cars, take it back to the dealer and have them warrenty it, or if you know anyone that works at a dealer have them hook Consult up to it and look at your Alphas, i just had one yesterrday that cut off when you start the car, but i fyou blipped the throttle it was all good and idled at 690 (roughly), i think your problem does lie in you MAF. or maybe possibly your throttle chamber, since we have a HUGE problem with those

so if I took this to the dealer with the Stillen intake on it, will they still warranty it?

I'm thinking I might have to switch out to the paper filter and stock box to go back to Infiniti.

Or is there a way I can clean the MAF? I know it is sensitive, so I dont want to send it to MAF Heaven too soon.

don't take it to the dealer with the stillen on it, take it with the stock box, we don't look at the elctrode there, we just replace it if its bad. so don't owrry they won't question you, and i'm not sure of anyway to clean it i have never tried

its the intake causing it to shut off...why would you go into neutral doing 100...the air turbulance is causing your car to shut off

Easiest fix to this problem..........

Don't place your car in neutral at 100mph!!!

It's the intake. This seems to be a relatively common problem with POP style intakes on 6MT FM-chassis VQ35s. For what ever reason, the MAF sensor flakes out if you do a high rpm, high mph blast and then place the car in neutral. The only fixes for the problem are either remove the intake or don't place the car in neutral when doing runs like this. If you blast up through 3rd or 4th, put the car into 6th once you've accomplished your contest.

Guys guys, I know I know! :-) It is just a bad habit from my old Volvo with auto tranny... It had a computer readout for instantaneous MPG and I used to run it to 120+ and then neutralize it to see if I could get the instantaneous MPG number to 99.9mpg or maybe 100... I never got it to say 100 mpg but I figured, hey, if Im goin 100mph and Im going to slow down to 60, I may as well just let it roll and not burn so much gas - so I would neutralize it. hehehehe - yeah, saving gas - as if I didnt just burn a ton 2 seconds before

Ok, so if the turbulence is causing it, then I won't really have a problem with the MAF dying on me.

Speaking of MAF death, If the MAF dies on these cars, can I unplug the MAF and still have the car operate? I ask because on my old car (once again) when the MAF would die, I could disconnect it and drive it in limp mode (ECU induced zero boost) until I reached a dealership.

Thanks for your input!

I believe that if you unhook the maf sensor it will go into a limp mode, and only rev to like 3,000 rpm - just enough to get you home.

Also - if you leave the car in gear it will actually get better mileage with the throttle closed. If the ECU sees high rpm closed throttle after about 1 second it turns off the fuel completely until the rpm drops below 1,500, or the throttle is opened. In nuetral it is supplying gas to keep the engine running. or in your case not running. So you should actualy get a higher mpg number leaving it in gear.

well, I dont have OEM GPS in this car, so I don't know an instantaneous mpg... heck, 100mph with engine off is the best gas mileage ever! lol

Once again, all you guys, many thanks for your help and input!
