Its kinda hard to explain but picture the entire shifter as the button. What you see of the shifter is free floating on a spring. Simply press down on the entire shifter and it engages.

General directions come with the product. You need directions to remove the shift **** based on your model car.
I installed mine tonight. I went slow and it took ~20 minutes. Now I want a cool shift boot!
