Some attatchements and images
Well,
The weekend work went rather well, we've got some more work to do but unfortunately we've run into a bug with mysql 4.1.10a that is causing us to make the call to have to eat some attachments and avatars, I know this sucks but let me explain.
Over the weekend we rebuilt the webserver due to some suspicious activity and being wildly out of date. When I rebuilt the server I dumped the database with mysql backup, when I reimported the data back in everything looked good till the next morning when I noticed the images were corrupted.
This is the answer according to vbulletin:
"Corrupted attachments (and avatars) is a known problem with MySQL 4.1.x backups. We have one of our Developers trying to understand the cause of this issue, but we do know the problem is definitely with MySQL 4.1.x. Unfortunately at this time the only fix is to downgrade to 4.0.24 (recommended.)."
Now the problem with their fix is that we have been running 4.1.x mysql for a while due to the speed enchancements that the site desperately needed. Unfortunately this means that for us to go that far back is not possible to fix the problem.
How do we keep this from happening again?
- Move files from the database to the filesystem: This will cause some extra overhead but it will keep this from happening again.
Please feel free to flame me as I should have tested the backup before we moved forward but I got cocky as I've done this 100+ times, but unfortunately I've found a bug related to vb 3.0.x and mysql 4.1.x which has today gotten the best of me.

Ouch. Bummer. No other backups you can restore?
ACK!
That's the way it goes sometimes. Not much you can do about it and no use crying over spilled databases.
Thanks for the work and the effort you guys put forth everyday. No need to flame. This board is a source of entertainment (obviously) for lots of us. The 'bug' wasn't intentional so no harm done IMO.
