Escort 9500CI custom radar detector installed in rear view mirror

I picked up my G35 Coupe last Friday and since I'm in the car audio field it only makes sense that the first mods I do are the electronics. Most of the stuff came out of my old car, but my old Escort radar was old a beat up, so I bought a new one. The Escort 9500CI is in my opinion the best (and probably most expensive) radar detector on the market, but it has without a doubt saved my *** many times over the years. For those of you not familiar with this radar here's the website for more info:

https://www.escortradar.com/store/passport-9500ci.html

I won't bore you guys with the mundane aspects of the install, but I thought you might like what I did with the display. I took apart the mirror and etched the back of it so I could see the radar display through it. Then I mounted the display inside the mirror and ran the wire down the headliner to the control module. It took some time to get everything lined up properly so that I could close the mirror and still have the buttons work, but the end result is well worth it. I posted a few pics and a short video of the radar booting up. I hope you guys like it.

Here is the video.

that's clean! where did you mount the unit/ how does it pick up radar signals? is that little screen/piece the only working part in the radar itself?

This radar has more parts then my entire car. LOL There are two Laser Shifters in the front grill along with a traditional radar receiver for X, K, and KA bands. There is also a Laser receiver in the rear. Then you have the GPS antenna which I have mounted on the top of my dash. There is also an external speaker, a pod with all of the control buttons and then the main brain that gets hidden under the dash. It also comes with a USB port so you can update the Traffic Cam database. It's a very complicated install, but well worth it when you're finished.

Thats pretty sweet. A little expensive tho for a radar detector. How long was the install? And how electronically mechanical does one have to be?

To do the install takes time. Not including the custom mirror display mount it took me three hours, but I've been installing for 20 years for a living. A novice would take the better part of a day to do it properly. It is expensive, but if you're like me you'll have it a long time. My last one I had for 6 years and it was in three different cars. I figure the amount of money it's saved me in tickets more then makes up for what I paid for it.

If there was enough interest I would, but I don't think to many people will spend that kind of money for a radar detector.

That looks great. I have a Ferrari dealer that loves the V1 and we put them in the mirrors all the time.

Who did yours? They did a very nice job etching the mirror. The auto dimming mirrors are a bitch to etch with the layer of copper they have in them.
