What are the favorite amplifiers for component speakers?

Obviously not "what are the most expensive ones", just "what are the ones people like best". The amp is very important. JL makes a nice sub amp (500.1) - are their component amps good as well? What other brands are quality amps with good hardware and configuration/tuning options?

What are important characteristics for a good amplifier to have?

With a nice set of component speakers (probably Polk Audio or MBQuart) what should one use to power them?

I have a JL 450/4 running MB Quart comps at each door. I am very happy with the sound quality and power. I personally don't think it much matters which amp you use for the comps as long as it provides enough clean power to match your bass setup. I am using the JL 450/4 mostly because it matches my JL 1000/1 running my subs. My setup has the amps exposed so using the same brand that matches looks better (same size too).

Would the 450/4 be too much power for MB Quart Premium PCE-216 components?
Also if I was only going to run a 500.1 JL with a smaller sub like a 10W6 or 10W7, would that be underpowered against the components?

Thanks.

1. Yeah, 450/4 is too much. I would use the 300/4.
2. No. That would be in line if you use a 300/4.

okay thanks, i appreciate your input. i think the only store around here that sells JL is Tweeter. I've heard some people say they are not the kind of place you want doing the installation though. Maybe I will buy the hardware there and either attempt to install myself or have another place do it.

If you're having it installed, I would find an install that can get you the JL equipment you want. I wouldn't want to buy at one place and ask a second place to do install because if something goes wrong during the install, you're stuck doing leg work.
