IPOD W/cassette adapter
Hey everyone i was curious to know if the ipod cassette adapter sounds any good... has anyone ever tried it since we G owners are fortunate enough to have a cassette player. I have a monster FM transmitter but it sounds ok, u have to turn up the volume really high to get good sound. Do you think the cassette adapter would sound better? How about compared to line-in auxialliary connection?

the cassette adapter should sound a lot better than the fm transmitter and pretty close to an interface. only issues with it is the tape may make noise while spinning in the deck depending on which adapter you get. i got a generic one and it didnt make noise for a while but after a couple of months it started making a little noise but i would just turn up the volume. another thing is that if you have your songs recorded at different volumes, you will have to adjust volume from track to track. i think the fm transmitter and the interfaces equalize the volume and have a set output for all tracks. if you want to charge your ipod you will have to buy a car charger. also you will have to change tracks with the ipod.
i had the fm transmitter for like a week but dont remember which one. i think it was around $50-60. i couldnt stand it so i got the cassette adapter for ~6 months and it worked great. i recently did the dd conversion mainly for the navi and ipod interface. the cassette adapter has almost the same sound quality except for the issues listed above.

it sucks, almost as bad as an FM transmitter
the hissing will get to you, you will become disenchanted with it very quickly
in fact, if you want my old one, you can have it if you pay for postage
I just bought the new PAC-NIS11 adapter and it is the BEST!!!! it is well worth the $110 I spent on it
went on a trip from Seattle to Portland and having 60 gb of music at the touch of my steering wheel control was like playing DJ

If you are in an area with no FM transmission interference, the FM transmitter is 10x the sound quality of the tape. The tape interface has a constant hissing sound, and really just sounds like total crap. Pay someone and have your Ipod hardwired into your head unit. Aside from 100x better sound than both the options you mentioned, you'll also have the option to charge your Ipod. If you're in the LA area I can do it.

Well you have a few options. Yes the PAC AAI-NIS2 will work. That unit simply allows you to get a L/R audio (RCA connectors) into your head unit. However, if you want a total solution, you will need a little more. I recommend getting the Belkin adapter. It has a plug that plugs into the bottom of your Ipod. Through that plug it provides power and takes out the music. It then plugs into a cigarette lighter (which I would get rid of and just hardwire in) and has an 1/8" stereo jack output. You then just need a little 1/8" to L/R RCA cable to connect to the PAC from the Belkin.
List of components for install:
1. PAC AAI-NIS2 $90
2. Belkin Adapter $50
3. Cable $5
4. Misc connectors + inline fuse holder $5
Anyway, there are other options for Ipod into your stereo out there, and worth researching. As far as doing the wiring and installing, it would take me under 2 hours. Here is an example of one I did in an FX.
