Bump bump blowen!

I blew my jl audio 10W6V2-d4 today i have the 500/1 amp in the 4080 box. Kinda dissapointed, the lip around the sub is all torn up... buhh it still works.
Now for the questions.....

1) Could it have been my lack of tuning experience that led to my speaker to blowing?

2) I may have bought it from an unauthorized jl dealer. Is there anything i could do for them to replace the speaker?

3) I thought i had enough bass, buh if the speaker blew that means i was pushing it too hard correct? This may mean its time to upgrade so i dont keep going through subs. Would i be able to buy the passager side 4080 box and run both subs with the 500/1 amp? or would i need a new amp?

4) Are there any better alternative sub choices? a friend of mine wants me to get the digital designs 3510. most likely i will buy/get mine replace with another w6 i was pretty happy with that.

My guess is it had a lot to do with the gain **** on your amp. Did you set your gain with a voltmeter/dmm or guesswork? I'm guessing your gain was too high and the clipping caused over-excursion. Umm, good luck on getting a new sub from an unauthorized dealer, but it's worth a try. If that doesn't work try going to a local shop and asking to buy a warranty so you can send your sub in and get it fixed.

Could you maybe have had something in the trunk that made a small tear in the surround? If you bought it from an unauthorized dealer, then maybe the sub was defective in the first place, (like having a small tear in the surround) and when you played it aggressive enough, it just ripped itself apart?
