Post 1200 dll audio budget.wwyd?

Ok so i'm willing to spend $1200.00 dlls to upgrade my 03 w/bose/nav. I honestly dont know jack**** about speakers or amps or subs and mids n highs and all that technical crap. My roommate can install everything for me since he knows about A/V. He's not professional but i guess he sounds like he knows what he's doing since he went to ITT tech. Newayz who better people to ask than the family here at g35 driver cuz u guys always pull through in these forums which keeps me coming back everyday just to see all the cool post.

Ok ok back to my question. With $1200 what should i get to upgrade my system? I want it to sound like a concert hall, meaning more bass, crisper sound, more loudness. I listen to all kinds of music so i'd love a little bit more than just bass (which i dont care that much about honestly). Oh I also need to plug my ipod in there! so add that pac-ns11 something thingy! so just make a list of things i should get thx guyz i appreciate it in advance

I'm in a great mood today, so I won't flame you... yet

$1200 means you probably are not going to go with the double-din swap... because doing a double din swap so it looks decent/nice/stock-like will run you $1200 alone (meaning, $1200 before you even get to replacing the speakers, adding a new amp, a sub box, a sub, wiring, etc).

Unfortunately, our stock head unit is a bittersweet beast. Lets put it another way, when it works, it's fine... but the problem is "when it works." You'll find a lot of posts on this forum about speakers that randomly stop working- because our stock HU has a defect (solder point on a circuit board) that causes this. It's a known problem that is fixable under warranty, but all they do is swap in another HU that has the same defect (no, they haven't fixed it).

So just beware- there is a chance that you will go through your install, keep the stock HU, and it may need to replaced 2, 3 or more times in the future.

That being said, I would recommend (and this is personal preference):

DLS UP6 components for the fronts. Disconnect the rear speakers entirely.
JL Audio amp 300/4 or a DLS amp (unfamiliar with models in the DLS brand)

I haven't done much reading on the hardwired IPod stuff but there has been plenty of info posted on the forums regarding it.

I will tell you that I'm largely disappointed with the PAC-AAI-NIS2.

Damn Amthar, I was waiting for one of your classic flames!

emtguy05: With your budget your looking at a setup of amp + component speakers. Some (not all) have disconnected their rear speakers to enhance the front sound stage. If you can stretch a little more and add a decent sub that would be ideal. A lot of us have put in DLS UP6s cuz they are excellent components, fit well in the stock location and we have a knowledgeable source from which to purchase (el_duderino, www.avincar.com).

Amthar: What's wrong with your PAC-AAI-NIS2?

The volume level on it is pathetic... at least for me, so I had to install a line driver / pre amp thing (soundgate, got it from el_dude).

I don't know if it's the line driver or the PAC, but I get two problems.

1. It "cuts" out. If the song starts quiet and then suddenly hits hard, it starts "crackling" instead of playing music. The crackling is in time with the music (vs. constant static)

2. I get engine whine. Happens regardless of whether I am playing music or not. Simply changing the input to SAT2 and driving around gives me the whine. I've tried grounding the preamp driver to the chassis and I've tried grounding to the black lead of the cig lighter with no different.

not too much worry tho- I plan on ditching the damn HU in dec. or so. I'm getting that speaker cut in-out crap and I don't feel like dic*ing with Infiniti's "fix" of simply giving me another defective product.

The volume level is definitely less than the other sources, probably 3-5 increments, on the PAC. Acceptable most of the time except when you really want to get down with your funky self. I've contemplated getting a line driver but haven't yet. I don't have the other problems so I guess I'm largely satisfied.

I am going through the same delima and I think that I have it figured out. I am thinking of going for the following components. I think that it will sound great for the money. I know everyone's going to have their own opinion, but I simply can't afford JL amps/speakers and I want one amp to push all of it to simplify the installation and wiring.

Amp $400
http://www.cardomain.com/item/INFREF5761A

4080 box $300

Sub $250
http://www.cardomain.com/item/INFPERFECT10DVQ

Front Components $300
http://www.cardomain.com/item/INFKAPPA607CS

Rear Fill Speakers $150
http://www.cardomain.com/item/INFKAPPA627I

Wires of your choosing...$150

Total is about 1550 but, you can shop around and get it down to about 1200. I just chose one website to give you an idea.
