Question aftermarket stereo head unit effects?

hey everyone. i was thinking of getting an aftermarket stereo head unit (for improved sound quality and dvd playing capabilities) but am wondering what effects (if any) it will have on my navi system? will the automatic sound volume adjuster be affected? will the steering wheel controls be disabled? etc... or would just tricking out the navi to play dvd's be a better/safer option? thanks for any info.

If by the automatic volume adjuster you mean the speed controlled volume, yes you will lose it unless your aftermarket deck has it. You will also lose your steering wheel controls unless the aftermarket deck has either 1.) a wired remote port on it or 2.) it comes with an IR remote control (and even then it may not work, but most likely will). Check out PAC Audio's steering wheel control interfaces for more info on these options.
