Help...just needing to upgrade my amp

Hello everyone, I am wanting to just upgrade the amp that is in the stock G35 coupe and after looking through all of the posts, I am left confused. Is it extrememly difficult just to switch out the amp with a higher end amp? Also, what would be considered a good amp for the bose speakers that come stock.

Thanks

Sloanhaus

Re: Help...just needing to upgrade my amp

I am no expert by far, but from what I know and have learned since I've owned my G is that the Bose amp uses "Balanced" line inputs which are basically impossible to hook up to an aftermarket amp. You have to use a "Line Output Converter" from the speaker output of the Bose amp to obtain a signal for your aftermarket amp. Upgrading the amp probably won't get you much as far as sound improvement because the stock speakers are "crap" as well. If you ever get to take a look at them the cage is made completely of plastic and it has some kind of a paper cone and the smallest magnets that I have ever seen. If you are going to upgrade the amp then also consider upgrading the speakers at the same time.

I can't believe that they can pass this off as an upgraded Bose option. I wonder what the standard radio comes with?

Anyway, Just my .02.

Re: Help...just needing to upgrade my amp

Thanks, I guess I am going to upgrade all the speakers. Could someone please tell me everything that I am going to need to purchase in order to upgrade the whole system. Also, Is it easy to access all of the speakers and once I replace all of the speakers, do I just add the line output converter and connect it to my new amp and than switch all the speaker wires over to the new amp? Going to purchase the speakers tonight. Also, any recommendations on which brand of speakers to go with (sound quality is most important obviously)?

Re: Help...just needing to upgrade my amp

I installed Focal 165KP speakers in the doors with dynamat extreme & an ARC Audio 4150CXLR Amp.

The Diamond Audio component speakers also sound great.
Listen to both and buy what sounds good to you.

Re: Help...just needing to upgrade my amp

I upgraded to JL AUDIO XR 6.5 Components in the front and XR 5.25 Coaxial in the rear with JL AUDIO Infinite Baffle 8" sub in the stock sub location ran by a JL AUDIO "E" Series 6450 6channel amp. No need for converter for RCA plugs because this amp has High level inputs meaning it has a RCA converter built in.
