traveled to NY to dothis G35 install :) just got back.pics

finally got home from a long week of work in NYC...where i traveled to perform an install on aG35 coupe at the customers house...

before i get into the install, just wanted to say that this will probably be the last time i travel to a hot and humid climate in the middle of summer lol... working 10 hours a day under the sweltering sun outdoors with limited tools is definetly hard on the body lol...also...

when the customer told me that he had a table saw, i sorta expected something more htan this very old unit with about a 10" cut and no guide lol
"thanks buddy! " those are 7" wireties on the table saw to give you a sort of reference point hehe...

but in the end, blood, sweat, tears and a lot of mcguyverness working around the lack of tools and proper work conditions yielded a decent result

the goals were:

1. good sound quality

2. clean install with some flash

3. incorporate the two 10w7s the customers already has

first of all, the car itself looks great! clean, and the pearl white is fantastic...

so lets get started:

the headunit is a new pioneer 6800 7" LCD headunit with 6 disc dvd changer. its pretty much identical in size as the Z1, so fitting it into the double din coversion kit wasnt a problem:

from the headunit, the signal flows to an audio control DQT digial 31 band 1/3 octave eq. the remote control of the unit we ran back upfront and flsuhed into the upper storage cubby, this presents a totally stealth set up:

and when its time to do any tuning, its easy to simple pop the unit out and tune the car from the comfort of your seat:

to keep up with two w7 woofers, a DLS ultimate iridium 3 way component set was used. the doors were completely dampened and a fiberglass pod build into the door to give the woofer a quasi enclosure, and the midrange and tweets are installed into suede trimmed factory kicks as usual.

I dont have pics of hte doors as the customer took those pics, i will share them when he emails them to me

andt hen there is the trunk. the challence of course, again, is to fit so many big things in such a small trunk. the stillen struct brance adds an additional challnege since hte jl subs are pretty deep.

basicaly, a fake floor was built with blaack vinyl, the subs and amps are trimmed in pearl white suede, and the crossovers for the DLS is displayed as well. the subs sit in their own 2.25 cub feet combined box. the nine.2x provides 200 watts to each side of the front stage, and the nine1x provides well over 1000 watts to the subs.

overall, i am very happy with how it sounds, the bass is simply insanely loud, i have to keep the gain very low and it was still too loud for my own personal taste haha...but the good thing is the front stage is up to the challnege of keeping up with them...

too tired to write more now, perhaps the customer can chip in with his comments...

thanks to pete for being a gracious and accomodating host...expect the table saw part :P

Wow, simply WOW. Pete told me he was doing this and thst he had this guy coming from Cali, but this is not what I expected. That is just simply amazing. Living in the same neighborhood as Pete and seeing his car I can say that it looked incredible without the system, I just cant wait to see this one in person. Pete, if you see this, pm me you phone number so that I can meet up with you, I definitely want to see this one in person.

How much would those kick panels run for? and would Focal 165v2 fit in them?

I can't believe you were in the area and didn't let us know you were coming might have gotten some more business out of the trip.

I know what you mean its been humid as hell

The work looks great as always and I always envy'd the West coast guys for having you out there.

thanks guys

eric - your kicks will bge mailed out tommorow

gt350z - are you the guy who told pete that he will probably get his car stolen by this "mysterious" west coast guy? haha

This job already stretched me to my physical limists, between walking from and to the subway station, to the heat to the lack of sleep...if i had any more to do i would really pass out lol...

the kicks, in terms of pricing, varies, just PM me, the DLS i like to use becuase you can get them in without too much modification, if the midrange speaker is deeper or bigger, then it may bge better to build the kicks out a bit...

i have basically figured out that if i were to do a house call again, i would need:

1. a two car garage space with electricity

2. a decnet size air compressor

3. a big table saw, something that can rip at least 16" or more

4. air conditioned sleeping quaters

5. hot chicks at night lol
