Looking for Stereo Upgrade Advice
I know there have been several posts on this subject, but I was hoping someone might be able to give me some specific advice.
I would like to upgrade the Bose system in my coupe. I'm not looking for competition-grade--just good quality sound with well-defined highs and solid (not boomy) bass. I'm willing to invest a modest amount, but not thousands of $. What are your recommendations for:
1. Front door speakers?
2. Rear seat speakers?
3. Sub(s) that preserve as much trunk space as possible.
4. Amp(s)?
5. Will I need a LOC?
I apologize if there's aready a post on this. It just seems like most are asking about specific components--not an entire system "makeover." Again, I'm not looking for best, just better.
Thanks in advance for anyone willing to respond.

Re: Looking for Stereo Upgrade Advice
You have to go listen yourself, and pick speakers which sound good to you. Anything else is foolhardy.
You will almost certainly need an LOC if you plan to swap out the amp (some amps have differential inputs built in so no need for an LOC).
Do a search here regarding what components others have chosen for their cars.

Re: Looking for Stereo Upgrade Advice
Simply replacing the front speakers will improve the tonal quality considerably.
Focal Polykevlar 6K1 Midbass in the doors.
Don't buy the compenent set, upgrade the tweeter to the Focal TN51.
Use Focals two way crossover.
Rear speaker selection is a matter of choice since their primarily just for "fill".(I'd do nothing)
JL Audio makes the best non competition line of subs they're very cost effective. A single 10W6 will work wonderfully. Most stereo shops will build a custom MDF box for less than $100.00
If your going to use the factory radio add a three channel amp.
No need to amplify the rear speakers.
Extant makes a three channel 75X2, 150X1 You'll have no regrets using this set-up.

Re: Looking for Stereo Upgrade Advice
DbSQjunkie, thanks for the reply. A couple of questions...
1. If I understand correctly, you'd leave the rear speakers connected to the factory amp, right? What about the factory subs--leave them also or disconnect and use only the JL Audio sub?
2. If #1 is correct, do I simply splice into the signal before it goes into the factory amp and run it into the Extant? If so, is a LOC required?
Sorry if these are dumb questions--this is certainly not my area of expertise. Thanks again for your response.

Re: Looking for Stereo Upgrade Advice
Sorry for the late reply,
I would not use the factory subs at all the JL will do all thats needed.
The Extant amp will require RCA inputs , however the input signal can range from 100mv up to 17v. If your a first time Extant user have your dealer do the amp install, its a bit tricky for a first time user. Plus the Warranty is 4 years if dealer installed.
