where to buy bigger alternators for a g35 coupe?

I've tried contacting a few places to see if they can rebuild the factory alt to a higher amperage... nobody seems to be able to do it. They tell me it's a pretty new car and there are no parts to allow them to do this.

So am i S.O.L. or does anyone here know where i may be able to buy a stronger amp for the g35 coupe that will be just basically plug-n-play? I am looking for something that outputs maybe around 180amps and up... I know our stock one is 110amps... which is not enough for a jl 1000/1 and a jl 450/4

http://www.jmlaudio.com/ might be able to help you. He's on this forum too, do a search for that URL and you'll come across his username most likely. He'll need some numbers off of your alternator, but he might be able to help you.

There is a place over where I am (Raleigh, NC) that supposedly is a distributor/installer/reseller of Ohio Generators which makes larger alternators for cars. I'm going to swing by there next Saturday and see if they can help me. I too am interested in a larger alternator, just because I have a TON of electronics in (and getting ready to go in) to the car (see sig). If they are able to help I'll let you know.

Well, honestly, I don't think your problems are related to the lack of output from the alternator; I have a JL 500/1, a 450/4, an e2150, and a full blow 200 watt carPC with a secondary 90 watt power supply for accessories, and I don't have any of those problems.

I would like a higher output alternator for peace of mind, but I don't think it is necessary

This guy has an auto though. With a 6MT, you aren't going to see the bucking during shifting, etc. There are other steps that aren't as drastic as this, and I've talked with this guy via PM about them. Apparently he is not satisfied with giving them a shot first. And yes, switching out the alternator is going to be a tough job. It's not exactly in a "user friendly" spot. If you have a mechanic do it, it will be costly. While the alternator would correct these problems at the source, there are other options.

I 100% agree with you khsonic. The reason I've been interested in a HO alternator is for the same reason Caelric is... peace of mind. When you're running the equipment he and I are, we get a bit paranoid about power consumption and cranking amps If you are trying to solve a PROBLEM, upgrading the alternator should not be your first step.

I would do a grounding wire and Big 3 Upgrade before replacing the alternator. If you research on the audio forums, that is always the first suggestion before replacing the alternator. Try it first and see if you are having any issues, then decide if you need a HO alternator

ok, grounding wire as in a grounding kit? i'm still confused about a grounding kit and big 3 upgrade... a grounding kit is basically one wire replacing the stock ground under the hood?

ok guys, i'll go ahead and do that before replacing the alternator... big 3/grounding kit, optima yellowtop...

just been having lots of options running in my mind lately on what to do, and confused all at the same time. heh

I'd do the big three before spending your money on a grounding kit. I, personally, feel grounding kits are snake oil products, but that's just me (and nothing against anyone who sells or buys them).

Yes, I would also recommend doing the Big 3 first. You stated that you have alot of extra 4 gauge wire left, so you can use that. Engine to chasis, neg post to chasis, and positive post to alternator. Being that you are having shifting issues, you might even want to consider a transmission to chasis or TCM to chasis ground too. We'll call it an abbreviated grounding kit... Get an Optima Yellow Top D35, and see how it works for you. If still no luck, then we can move further.

OG will rebuild it for you, but you need one to send in if your '05 or newer. I had to do the same.

OG = Ohio Generator.

I didnt get the new one back yet. Although it is a bit tight in there I dont see it being that bad to change. I could be wrong though..
