Re: $12 LCD mount in my G35C

The cubby pocket was cut out so the monitor/head unit would fit in it. The air duct that feeds the rear seat ducts had to be modified so the unit would fit, so I don't have any heat/ac coming out of the vents on the back of the console (affects rear seats only) The brain was mounted under the drivers seat and the nav unit was mounted in the "long glove box" (same place as the stock nav unit is mounted.
Cost me $700 labor for the install, but I have had the dash apart so many times for other installs (V1, Sat harness, etc) I believe that it could be done be a novice if you take your time.
The Unit is a Kenwood KVT-911DVD
The Nav is the Kenwood 2100

If you have any further questions, feel free to PM me.
MIKE

The Kenwood 911dvd has 2 more video inputs so you could hook up 2 playstations! It has 1 extra video output so you could hook up 1 additional screen. The head unit/monitor has a dedicated output for it.
The KEnwood 911dvd can be found now for around $1200 and the Kenwood Nav is about the same price.

$2400US in parts alone...wow...that's up there with the stock nav prices (including installation). Very nice setup nevertheless. How do you like the Kenwood nav? If you were to do it again, would you pick something else?

Re: $12 LCD mount in my G35C

I really like the Kenwood Nav as it is a touch-screen and has all the "bells and whistles" such as birds eye view, split screens, etc. The 911 head unit is great also, has built in dvd player. Also have a Sirius sat run through the Kenwood (freebie). If I had it to do over would probably go with stock nav as it has the "use computer" for keeping up with the G's Mileage, etc. but still DO LOVE the setup I have now.

When I come up with $4000+ Canadian, I'll be sure to check this mod out in more detail. $1200 now is not bad tho compared to the official Kenwood websites. Found the headunit on Ebay for $13000.

Hey, aorbeta, I'm very much interested in seeing those pics of your custom screen although I can't see those links anymore. Would you be kind enough to send me pics to my email and perhaps any other information about your mod. I'm really considering this course of action because it seems really slick. BTW email is jakeup11193@yahoo.com

Here are a few pics of my LCD mount in the stock nav location. Unfortunately, my car didn't come with the nav so I came up with this idea of using the stock display holder and an aftermarket LCD. The display holder is about $12 from Grubbs. Thanks to Carvey@Grubbs for finding the parts. The LCD is obviously not installed yet, but will I will be ordering it next week. A 7" viewable, 16:9 ratio LCD will fit in the display holder. I plan on using an aftermarket nav system for this LCD as well as a mobile DVD player. The display is removable for security purposes and the stock lid can be used to hide the hole. The clock is still in view as well.

Hi,

I have installed an Alpine Monitor, NAV unit, while making the screen retractable. If anyone is interested I can send you pics.

I would like to see how you setup your LCD mount. Please send me pics. The pics on this forum are no longer accessible.

Also, I am selling the entire G35 OEM NAV console; it comes with the retractable screen, BOSE 6 disc CD changer, and DVD NAV unit. I can send pics to anyone that is interested in buying.

Please let me know. My e-mail address is vluong117@yahoo.com

Thanks,
Vince
