$12 LCD mount in my G35C
Here are a few pics of my LCD mount in the stock nav location. Unfortunately, my car didn't come with the nav so I came up with this idea of using the stock display holder and an aftermarket LCD. The display holder is about $12 from Grubbs. Thanks to Carvey@Grubbs for finding the parts. The LCD is obviously not installed yet, but will I will be ordering it next week. A 7" viewable, 16:9 ratio LCD will fit in the display holder. I plan on using an aftermarket nav system for this LCD as well as a mobile DVD player. The display is removable for security purposes and the stock lid can be used to hide the hole. The clock is still in view as well.

Re: $12 LCD mount in my G35C
wizawuza,
The monitor cover is the one that comes from the factory for the stock nav system, so the quality is excellent, matches my titanium dash perfectly like it should.
As far as install, I only purchased the monitor cover, which is the cosmetic piece that matches the dash and frames the monitor. I had to fabricate an aluminum shell for the back of the monitor cover to hold the rest of the monitor electronics and then mount it to the cubby hole. This all required removal of the radio/ac section of the dash, and modification to the cubby hole(cutting, drilling, etc.).
The unit does not motorize up and down like the stock nav. That unit can be purchased for a hefty price. I think Grubbs quoted me almost $1500. This would have been the easiest way to do the monitor install, but the price was too much for me. I believe the stock nav doesn't motorize up and down, but is almost spring loaded, requiring the driver to push the switch on the top of the display for the unit to pop up, then push it down to lock it in place.
I actually intended to build something custom to motorize the display up and down, I have the motor, limit switches, power supply, etc. to do this, but decided to put it back together and leave it the way it is. Maybe I'll revisit this idea in the future... Thanks for the compliments.

Narkotic,
I have the part #s at work. I'll get them to you on Tuesday, or if you want them today, just call up Carvey@ Grubbs Infiniti. Ask for the monitor display cover and he should know what you're talking about. I can also get you the manufacturer and part # of the LCD monitor that will fit.

icontractor,
I got this from Grubbs Infiniti. You can order it from your local Infiniti dealer. It's the piece that comes with the stock nav system. I'll post part #'s on Tuesday.

Re: $12 LCD mount in my G35C
Hey, cool idea. I wanted to do the same thing as well, but never had the chance to check pricing. I wanted to go all out with the complete sotck nav unit and have the stock buttons as just for show and no function. After hearing the cost of the complete unit, it seems hardly worth it. This is a nice cheap way of making aftermarket screens fit and look nice.
My question is, how is the cubby cover supposed to fit and cover the screen when the cover you bought is supposed to be flush with the top of the console? If you say the screen is removable, does that mean you have to take the cubby cover off every time you want to view/mount the screen?

It's still a G thang!!

Thanks shade73. I unfortunately can't find the part #s. ?? I'll check with Carvey today. Also, the screen that I am using is from a company in Cali. called Caltron Industries. I will be using their PM-070K. From their .pdf the screen looks to be a perfect fit, and @ $278, it's a good deal. I've used their 2.5 inch screens in projects for work and their quality is excellent.

Rumble,
Yeah, I was disappointed when I found out the actual pricing of some of the nav equipment. The holder retails for $1787, Grubbs could get it for $1430. The stock monitor is $1395! Ouch. You still have to purchase the DVD-ROM and control section.
The screen just lifts up and out. Not an elegant solution to the situation, but will do for now until I can get it motorized. I will have quick disconnects for the video/+12v/ground. The stock cubby cover is not functional anymore and just sits there when the car is parked. Also, my display does not sit as high as the stock navigation screen does. The stock navigation covers the clock entirely, mine is about1.5-2 inches lower than that.
