Retain steering wheel controls with aftermarket HU/DVD??

I'm in the market to get an aftermarket headunit, most likely a DVD player. Not sure single or double DIN yet, but I do want something. I heard of some people who have retained use of their steering wheel controls, how do I do this?

some pioneer decks have a hardwired remote port, you'd want to get the PAC PIO unit if you get a deck that fits this requirement

no. it's called a hardwired remote port. Check crutchfield or pioneer's websites, they will tell you.

I looked at crutchfield's site and it claims that the 6800dvd is compatible with the SWI-PS. Pioneer's website doesnt tell me anything about this port. Where did you see that it isnt compatible?

^ That's the exact same one I want! Only if I can get it to work with my steering wheel controls though. Otherwise I'm gonna get the Alpine IVA-W200

Where do you see that it is compatible with the SWI-PS? I clearly see:

"Wired Remote: NO" on the features page.

Regardless of whether the 6800 supports the SWI-PS or not (which it doesn't), you can use a SWI-X.

I have a 6800 sitting in my house ready to get installed, along with a SWI-X and a TR-10 (for mobile video bypassing).

Could you link me the site to the SWI-X. Also what are you going to be doing with TR-10? Could you explain more about this product and why you going to install it for what reason.
