Problem with V1

I have recently purchased a V1 (last Thursday). I had a Passport 8500 that was stolen out of my company vehicle. The problem with the V1 is it shows a weak (1-2 lights) Ka signal from the rear. If I hold the detector in reverse, the signal will switch to the front (though actually is the rear) or show no signal. I have SAT and have spoken with Valentine. Stumped, we are. Any ideas?

Thanks, Robert

Re: Problem with V1

If you think it's the SAT, have you tried unplugging the SAT unit to see if it goes away?

You would have to show how lazy I am! LOL. I was planning to do this on saturday, but might as well do it today. Though, I have not heard anyone having this problem before.

Re: Problem with V1

I had a similiar problem in my IS300 when I had a viper alarm/ starter put in. my radar would show a weak k signal toward the front and i could move the detector cuz it was hardwired. I called valentine and viper and both were no help. I the got my lighter cable for the detector and saw where in the car the signal got stronger and it was in my shifter area. It turns out it one of the options I installed with viper, the module for motion sensing.

The thing with you though is I have a v2 and xm and dont have that problem. Try moving the detector around the car and see where it is the strongest and go from thier. good luck

I have a V1, and a roof-mounted SAT reviever but have no problems at all. Seems odd, keep us informed on the progress.

Re: Problem with V1

Well, it is the SAT antenna. I used the supplied straight cable for the V1 and moved the detector about the car. The signal was very strong when pointed at the antenna. When I went past the antenna, the arrows would show this. Freaky! Anybody have OEM SAT and Passport 8500? Looks like no arrows for me. Atleast the V1 won't be completely missed. It is too sensative around the city/towns. Sigh.

Re: Problem with V1

Is your SAT antenna in the rear deck, or up on the roof? If it's inside the car, maybe relocating it would help.

I have 2 V1, different cars. I believe its your sat receiver. Both my detectors p/u the Direct TV dish at the house, get about two LEDs sig strength from the oscillator in the low noise amplifier on the dish.

Re: Problem with V1

I do have the SAT mounted on the rear deck. Other than placing it in another location on the deck (which I doubt will have any effect) I will not place it on the exterior of the car. I suppose another Passport is in my future.

Re: Problem with V1

I get excellent rear response from my V1. Also have a Terk XM antenna mounted in the rear brake housing. Also have an Amateur Radio dual band antenna mag mounted on the rear trunk lid. At up to 55 watts, there was no way of keeping that antenna inside the car. With all this stuff, I still get good rear V1 reception. Regarding around the town sensitivity. There are still a lot of X band around that are used to open doors in shopping centers. Did you know that you can completely program out X band on the V1? I did that, and it eliminates all the annoying beeps from door openers. Don't switch from your V1, find a solution. The Passport is no match.

Re: Problem with V1

I am only getting the Ka alarm from the antenna. The wierd thing now is that I am not getting the alarm from the antenna (rarely have a false Ka). I did not change anything. I was planning to add the factory spoiler and place the antenna where the third brake is now oriented toward the rear. It is currently sideways between the brake light and the rear seat.

I am keeping the V1. Although, I get more alarms from the V1, I dig the arrows.

Re: Problem with V1

Have you disabled the X band?
