Audio Installation fee $821.00 good deal?

Going in to bring my car to replace front 6 1/2 and tweeters. Install two amps with two 10 sub. Replace 2 6x9 too.

The audio shop quoted me $820. Price will include all wires. This is a very professornal and well know place. Very good reputation.

Price does not include any speakers or sub.

$600 for installation fee
$221 for wires and other needed accessories.

total = $821.

At first I thought that price included the components as well which would have been a good deal. But just for install and wires? That's steep. Shop around for sure.

How much fabrication are they going to be doing for you? That all comes into play.... An install can cost from 1k to 2500k as well depending on the type of fabrication and time that is put into it.

Remember, you get what you pay for. If you only want cheap, that is the quality of work you will most likely get... There is something to be said for service and support along with the quality of the work you would get for spending a little a little bit more.

I look for the best prices on my hardware and components because you know what you are getting as far as the brands... When it comes to installs and service, I look for the best and am willing to pay for the peace of mind I will have knowing they will take good care of my baby.

At the store I manage we normally get $75 a pair for components
$40 for a drop in replacement
$60 for a 1-2 ch amp install
$70 for a 3-4 ch amp install
and if we are building a box we don't charge to put the sub in it. Wiring price may vary.

Hope it helps

The only thing I would see as a little abnormal is the 221 for wires. You can get a GOOD amp kit for under $100 (High) and that is about it IF they use the same wires as the factory. If they are going to run a complete audio re-wire (ie every single speaker in the car is directly run to an amp) then I would say the total is a VERY fair price. Car audio installation is not easy and fast by any means, it is hard, tedious, and time consuming.

If they are just going to tie your aftermarket speakers into the stock system save yourself a lot of money and just change the speakers yourself. But let them do the amp kit you will be glad you did.

well, i am going to buck the trend and say thats not THAT abnormal. if this really is a good shop as you say...here is how i see it break down for a G35.

1. doing front door speaker install properly, and i mean running brand new wires into the door run all the way back to the amp..

is a good 2-3 hour job...at some normal expesnive rates quoted by high end shops..thats about 150-200 bucks. and hopefully with a good shop this includes the cost of some dampening

2. getting to the rear 6x9s is very difficult, i would call it a 3-4 hour job to get it all done, with dampening...150-250 bucks...ish

3. hooking up for hte amp and installing subs...2-3 hours again...150-200ish...

4. wiring..hmmm lets see if they use really good stuff at retail to you:

20 feet of 4 guage: 30-35 bucks, if all new speaker wires are run for each mid and tweet to upfront etc...call it 60 feet of spekaer wires: 20-30 bucks, a good fused distribution block sells for 20-30 bucks. really good rca cables, 6 pairs of 17-20 feet would run you about 100-150 bucks depending on brand...and some misc cost...10-20 bucks...

again, i am not saying I would charge nearly the same, but from my experience in car audio, this cost quote to you for these things on a G35 isnt all that unreasonable, provided this is a top notch shop known to do top notch work...

thats all...

you usually get what you pay for, you go to best buy, an they may charge you 200-300 bucks, you watch what happens, no new wires will be run into the door, half the clips in yur rear deck might be busted, things get shorted out...etc...

Just do it all yourself. It took me 1 weekend to do MUCH more than what your paying for and guess how much it cost me... $0.00

Not only that, I enjoyed working on the car while I was doing it.

That way, the only $ you will need to spend is on the wiring and misc stuff.

Keep the rest of the $ you were going to use for the install to save up for yet another mod in the future
