Re: Pionner Nav System

Murray,

I won't be getting the g35c for a couple months, but my cd player in my Isuzu Rodeo just broke, and I am thinking about getting the pioneer NAV system now, and transitioning it to the g35 when I get that.
here is the link:
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn..._38333,00.html
I have read a number of reviews on it, nothing comparable for the price...I think etronics.com has it for about ~1900
I am battling whether to spend the money now or wait....we will see

Re: Pionner Nav System

I have looked into it. Apparently the AVIC 80 is better than alpine due to the touch screen. The only option for mounting would be on top of the cubby hole. Stereo shops in my area estimated $1000 to mount it inside somewhat like how someone on thie board did.

I decided against car NAV and will end up buying a Garmin or HP Ipaq w/ navman or pharos GPS system

Re: Pionner Nav System

Guys!

I have the AVIC80 + the touchcreen. It is head and shoulders above all other navs out there, including the stock nav. It looks pretty good. It is just that I am in L.A. now and am not going back to school to S.F. till Sunday. Will post the pics then.

Re: Pionner Nav System

Gurgen, that is awesome news, I really want to see some pics of this before I buy it, as many as you are willing to take....

I also wanted to mention that I will be getting the Delphi SKYFi unit to control XM radio with. The problem with using the pioneer unit(for XM) is that it can only display one piece of information at a time (channel name, song title, or artist). The SKYFi displays channel number, channel name, genre, artist, and song title all at once, it also has a good remote control and is pretty cheap. I will take some pics when I get it.

The only thing I don't like is that it's another thing to mount, but I will but it in the cubby hole of the G35c when I get it.

Oh, I found this deal where I can get the SKYFi with the car kit (tape adapter, cigarette power adapter, and mounting bracket) for $99. You have to get at least a 6 month subscription though, which isn't a problem. I will post info on the deal if anyone is interested.

Re: Pionner Nav System

no the avic-90 does not have touchscreen capability like the avic 80 does. But you can get that capability as well buy buying a 329 dollar upgrade disk (the cndv21 disk - which comes with the avic 80). Too expensive IMO.

Re: Pionner Nav System

Here are two pics as promised. The second one below is the most recent one, just of poorer quality. Just wanted you guys to get the idea that you can angle the screent o face you the driver. This alone is just an awesome feature. Very driver-centric!!!

Re: Pionner Nav System

By the way, g35coupesoon

Iw ould get the sirius instead of Xm Much better. NO comercials on music channels, believe me it's worth it.

And Kenwood makes this great unit that HAS a 3-line display and is also portable. Looks much better than the Delphi (which has a screwed up streaking LCD)

Re: Pionner Nav System

pretty nice lookin nav unit gurgenpb..

couple questions.. was it a tough install? hows the monitor mounted up there near the cubby hole..

is it removeable/concealable? if not do you worry about parking somewhere for extended periods of time... that seems like a nice lure for would be thieves.. especially if its just mounted up there.. easy to yank off..

does it play movies too? wheres the dvd system actually located?

cost?

Re: Pionner Nav System

the dvd system is the upper glovebox, just where the factory nav would go. The screen is removable, pretty easily. I guess it could be stolen, but hey, that's the price you pay. I added it to my insurance so it is covered.

It is mounted with the included universal mount. No promises, but will take the picture if I get some time.

It il will NOT play movies. As I said youcan get the avic-90 and the upgrade disk. Will cost you extra 500 bucks for that privelidge. I didn;t opt for it.

Re: Pionner Nav System

After messing with the Pioneer 6500DVD in a store, I don't think I want it anymore. For one think the stupid dolphin background is really annoying. I guess I would have the NAV up all the time, but the unit just seemed to have a cheap menuing system. If I am gonna pay $1900 for a head unit it better be dang near perfect, and that pioneer certainly isn't. Also, to get NAV with any other brand costs a fortune....

Right now I am thinkin Alpine 9815...we will see though.

Re: Pionner Nav System

I just had a Pioneer Nav System along with a DVD system installed in my Sedan and it turned out great, What make this nice is that it does not block out the Infiniti clock. The systems is mounted under the passengers seat and the DVD player is mounted in the upper glovebox. I used the AVIC-DVD. with the 6.5 touch panel dispaly. The video dvd is hard wired to 89.9 Fm with a switch under the drivers knee which allows me to have the sound sent of the Bose stereo system without fear of the fm signal overriding the sound. Anyway, I have attached some pictures of the installation.
