Coupe - Adding Amp to Base (not BOSE) HU - Questions

Please tell me is there a better point for connecting amp (JL 300/4 bridged) to doors speakers (UP6) then cut speaker wires just before M11 and M74 connectors (these are connected to the door grommet)?

Should I use twisted RCA cables or plain speaker wires in both directions (power and bunch of CarPC wires are already installed on passenger side) for amp that will be on the back of the back seat?

In case if I have to later remove the amp, what kind of connectors would be best to use on OEM speaker wires?

Any tips, especially for installing UP6?

Thanks

Keep in mind that you will be running equalized signals from the base HU thru the amp to the speakers. These are not line level signals. The HU is equalized to make the crappy OEM speakers sound as good as possible. That same equalized signal may or may not sound very good with an amp and better speakers.

One way around this... JL Audio Cleansweep. Takes everything back to line level giving you much cleaner signals going to the amp. I used it in my system and it was worth every cent. I am running the stock base HU with two JL amps, JL components in front, JL coax in rear for fill and a JL 10W6 sub in custom enclosure.

To each his own though. Good luck!

Does the JL Cleansweep make a big difference on the base headunit? I've been itching to get this but I just don't know if it's worth it or should I just go and replace the HU (which is $$$).

Its funny that you mentioned Cleansweep because, in my case, what started with only replaced 10uf tweeter caps and then added Basslink to now JL 300/4 with DLS UP6, might end up with adding JL Cleansweep to the chain. But before I do that I like to hear what is going to sound without Cleansweep.

Although Bose HU equalization is known now - base HU equalization is still pretty unknown on this board. I remember great expectations posted on this board by some users about Cleansweep, which once it arrived, if I remember correctly, fell short, and now some members are clearly against Cleansweep.

Please tell me where did you connect amp or Cleansweep to HU. Thanks

I am planning to cut into the same harnesses you mentioned to hook up an amp to the door speakers (crossover in the door obviously)

Check out these reusable connectors if you want to go back to stock someday.

Also, I am probably only going to tap the rear speakers for high level inputs to an amp. Not going to use rear speakers anyway, and I read somewhere on this site that there is less EQ done to the rears.

JL Audio Cleansweep?????

I have the base HU and the Cleansweep made a big difference. As I have posted in other threads, the Cleansweep has a switch to let you hear the difference with and without it's mojo. Buy it from an authorized dealer and you can take it back if you don't think it's worth the bucks. Plus, it has an aux input for a sat radio or mp3. Sounds awesome. You will not believe the difference if you have been listening via FM modulator.

I paid 299 for the Cleansweep so I wouldn't have to switch out my HU and I think it's worth every penny.

Love this board! Keep it rockin'

Well steve465, I am glad that you like your Cleansweep so much but perhaps you can answer some of my questions, like: where did you connect amp or Cleansweep to HU. Thanks

destroid, thanks for posilock link, I found them in Wallmart and they are exactly kind of connectors that I was wishing for.

I have Basslink connected to the rear speakers currently and because I am anyway going to cut OEM front speaker wires, it will be easy to swap input for amp from either front or rear HU output as a test. Thanks again
