I have a PPI PCX-2200 amp which puts out 800 bridged at 4 Ohms. I was wondering what would compliment it better. A 12w7 that runs at 3 Ohms or 2 12w6v2 running at 4 Ohms?

 

I used to own a 12w7 powered by a jl audio 1000/1 amp. Prior to using that sub, i had 3 12w6's (version 1) running off of a 1400 watt ppi amp. I can honestly say that the 12w7 had much better SQ, but it did not get as loud obviously. That being said, the 12w7 can probably outperform the pair of 12's if properly set up. The 12w6v2's sound VERY similar to w7's in terms of sound quality so you really cant go wrong either way. A 12w7 will save you some space, but a pair of 12w6v2's may have a bit more impact. I would probably go with the 12w7 since it would save space, sounds great, and will be more than enough for most people.

 

Does it matter than the amp is set up for 4 Ohms and the w7 is 3 Ohms?

 

The PPI amp is considered a higher quality amp, so the 3ohm load should be no problem. It will run hotter so make sure the install promotes cooling. I ran a great number of PPI amps on single W6 series subs (3ohms) with no problems.

Yea...ppi makes good amps. You will have no trouble running the 12w7 off of the ppi. Those amps do get hot though, but they dont shut done as far as i know in my experience with them. Enjoy your system!

 

Thanks for all your help. I think I'm goin to go with the 12w7 with what you guys said. It'll save me space and it should be a good sub to go witht the coupe. Thanks again.
