Ipod Ashtray Dock

Got an email today from 2point5.com on their new ashtray Ipod dock for the 2003+ G35 coupes & sedans (I think I sent them a request about a year ago).

We've gotten more than a few customer requests over the past few months referring to a spec.dock solution for the?2003 & up G-35 Coupe and 2003-2006 G-35 Sedan, and are pleased to announce the immediate availability of these products. We have two complete spec.dock solutions for the G35 at two price points: The first package comes complete with a spec.dock that drops into the factory pop-out ashtray location, a full iPod interface that charges and allows control of music from the factory steering wheel and radio controls as well as from the iPod interchangeably, one Apple Universal Dock Insert of your choice, installation instructions and domestic shipping for $299. The second package has all the same features and accessories as the first, but eliminates the ability to control the iPod from the steering wheel or radio controls. This package is $229.
I've gotten the Clarion MAX675VD with Ipod interface, so I'd have no use for this dock, but it'll be good for someone looking to keep their stock headunit with steering wheel controls.

Here's a pic of the dock.

$300? the USA spec ipod interface is $130 shipped, so they are basically charging you $170 for a piece of plastic?

It also doesn't look like it will fit 2003-2004's either. I just made an iPod dock for someone on this forum, and I sold it to them for $150 including the USA Spec. Granted it was a used one. I would be willing to custom mount an iPod dock for less than that if someone wanted to send me their iPod dock and ashtray.

It probably uses USA spec for connection and charging, with the addition of steering wheel control, that could explain the $300 charge.

I already broke it down, USA Spec is only $130, so they are charging $170 for a piece of plastic

^^ This guy is right. All I did was custom mount the USA Spec docking cable to an iPod cradle, then custom mount that inside the ashtray. These guys made a cradle with a plastic mould, but the USA Spec dock cable probably still connects to it.

As a quick follow up to this, I got my usa spec PA11-NIS installed and mounted in my ashtray for me for around $80.

I bought the PA11-NIS for $120. So taking it and having it custom done for me was $100 cheaper, with no labor on my part. Seems like a no brainer to me....
