the dealership will require the premium ($2000) package for the navi addon (another $2000 = $4000) total. to go with an aftermarket unit (ex pioneer, eclipse) it'd be around 1500, and you would need the skyline double din conversion which is around 400, so it would cost about $2000. and, the thing about aftermarket nav units is that they don't have the "3d view" (correct me if i'm wrong)

i'm gonna do this... i hope.
I have a $400 Garmin (discontinued model 2650) at the same eye level of view, and fits perfectly on top of the open cubby. Granted, while it can fit neatly in the cubby it does not have a lift mechanism, and I need to disconnect the cord at the back, but since the car is always garaged at home I rarely have to put it away. All that takes a few seconds. plus I can use it in another car.

We have integrated Navi in an Acura, one of the best there is, so I guess I don't find it to be such a big deal. A rear veiw camera feature is good though.

Again, I can appreciate the work you guys do on this stuff. I don't think anyone was able to do it successfully on an Acura, but then folks were picking up nav units off of ebay with questionable histories.

My unit does not have the birds-eye view, but most newer after-markets do.

So, in the short term, aftermarket navi may be a lower cost, but in the long run, when resale value is factored in, OEM navi is clearly the better method from a financial stand point.

By all means get it if you want it! You need to be happy with your vehicle.
But using resale value is poor at best. Kind of like saying if I spend 2000 bucks today... don't worry, you will still have $1000 of it left 5 years from now.
After-markets are cheaper with as good and some even better features, plus when you sell your car, you don't have to give them up!
But by all means, outfit your car the way you want, that's a priority, I don't buy the resale as a big advantage, maybe a little compensation for your trouble. But don't have regrets for not getting what you want when you make your purchase.

Great job! You've accomplished something that many others have been dying to do. But I also agree with some of the other posters here. You got to show us how you did it! At least where you obtained your items. (i.e. wiring, parts.) That might lead some of us to the right direction.

It's a Japanese company called Xanavi. Here's a link to their site: http://www.xanavi.co.jp/products_e.html

Regarding factory oem navi, make sure to have the most updated disc from Garmin. While my navi always seemed to "hiccup" when navigating in map mode w/ an old version of the dvd-rom, w/ the most updated version from Garmin, the navi hardly evers lags or hiccups (even though it still like a ds looking navi imo, lol).

BUUMP! Snooze...I know you're probably getting ready for finals and all that——can we expect a materials/cost/DIY breakdown after schools out?
