Question DD HU Purchase... Dealer vs. Ebay??

Well I've bought everything for my system but the HU, I was going to go with the W200. Only decision I'm having a hard time making is rather to get it cheap on ebay or purchase local from an arthorize dealer. I just wanted some outside ideas and thoughts on this. How many of you have actually bought your HU from ebay? Do you feel it's risky and not worth the money saved?

With my older car I bought a 7 inch motorized hu and had no problems and saved $300 bucks. Ebay is great when you find a good seller

it's big bucks you can save here's an example of what I saved.

Clarion MAX675VD $1200-$625=$575
Alpine PDX1.100 $850-$520=$330
Alpine PDX2.150 $450-$310=$140
Polk SR6500 $900-$530=$370

that's $1415 saved off full retail prices is which is what the shops around here charge. it's a no brainer, even if it busts and you need to buy a new one, it still comes out ahead. Besides, most of the reputable places will offer a warranty.

Purchased a brand new IVA-W200 on Ebay. Received it and the CD/DVD reader didn't work. Luckily I was able to return it to the ebay seller with no problems and got my refund. Bought a new IVA-W200 from a local Alpine dealer and spent $850. I get the factory warranty this way even though I spent $150 more. In the end my peace of mind was worth the extra $150.

See this is exactly what makes me want to buy from ebay and have a hunk of money left over. Still in the back of my mind is what if I'm not lucky enough to get working stuff.

I'll probably end up going to the Dealer and seeing if I can a least talk him down a couple hundred. It would just be hard paying $800-1000 for the simple fact of feeling comfortable that if it malfuctions the store is up the street.

I always purchase my Alpine products from an ebayer x-sounds. I just bought my IVA-W200 from him for $650.00. I have bought the IVA-D310, NVE-N872a, TV Tuner and many other things Alpine from him. Never one problem and he does offer some sort of warranty (think 30 days) in case of any problems. All items Brand New in Box and NOT damaged boxes either. My brother has also used him and has not had any problems. A little food for thought. I have had other ebayers say brand new in box and get the product and it looks like it fell off a third story building.

Yeah I know what you mean, I just recieved my Alpine 10" sub in a box like that. The sub seemed in tip top shape, but I guess I'll find out when I play it.
