erwin, i am not so sure about custom cutting, unless you got someone with a really good cnc
if you can live with it for a while, give me a sometime, i get G35s all the time as you know, and the next 03-04 model i get, i will tell them i already got the double din taken care of for them, (if they have a silverish interior), andt hen i will go ahead and tell you to order the black one, and then once you get it in, come by and i will do the swap, and i will give you money to pay for hte one i am taking...cool?
i am in south san jose, just PM me and i will send you some directions, but i dont run a shop, do installs by appoint at my house but i always have guys stopping by to chat and take a listen to my car. hehe
as for making amp racks, sorry, i would need to do it in a car, to make sure its attached right and all that, sub box area easy to preb, but amp racks are not
yes, with a high popwered enough sub, i do thik the 4080 grille wil lcome loose...but what can you do? one thing you can try is drilling two holes and then screw it down...but may look worse...

a common misperception is that high frequencies are like light beams, being a focused type of energy.
this is infact, not true, if you could "see" the sound coming from any speaker, it would be in a pretty wide radiating pattern. different speakres are different, hence some speakres are better off axis than others.
the DLS ultimate line of speakres, works extremely well both ON and OFF axis...
in this kind of set up in the G...the sound sounds like they are coming from about dash level high...
you can ask anyone who has had or heard a similar setup done by me int he past

As for keeping the tweeter close to the midrange/midbass... In a good system you shouldn't hear where the tweeters are. In a stock system there is little doubt when you sit down whether the tweets are in the dash, pillar or door. When you move the tweeter closer to the mid, you correct many phase problems created by the distance. This helps them blend better, you will have smoother vocals, better imaging, better staging and no tweeter screaming at you saying "Hey! Here I am, I'm a TWEETER!!!"
All this is assuming you are using quality speakers with a quality install.
