ALTERNATOR

Anyone know where to get a bigger alternator? I got two JL12W6, one JL 1000/1, one JL 450/1 and two 1.2 caps. When the radio is cranked the tac moves down and when I leave an intersectoin my car shifts hard. My local stereo shop said I need a bigger alternator but do they make any for our cars?

Re: ALTERNATOR

I am installing a system about the same as that with a tricked out custom fiberglass stuff to match the car paint...
Your's is killer...
Our alternators put out about 115amps, but you can get it respun for about $150 or so, and then you can get about 180-210 amps out of it which in your aplication would be good, this is what i am going to do!
I am also going to run dual optima yellow tops one starter, and one audio battery, and this should handle the power problem really well... I have been told that our JL amps don't need a capacitor, but for heavy hitting base it would also help the charging system in the car. I am going to go with a 5 farad which is well overkill (0.5 farad per 500w)

Hope this helped, i am not sure about the performance loss from the respun alternator, i am trying to figure that out right now, if anyone knows the answer please help!

Peace
-Eric

Re: ALTERNATOR

Alternator's are like generators, or reverse engines...

Simple version:
a spindle with copper spun around it is spun by your engine, this spindle reacts with magnets surrounding the spindle, creating an electric DC current...

There is a company in south Fla, that does it, I forgot their name, but they wrap better, and more copper tighter on the spindle making it more potent, thus it makes more current...

Most audio shops should know where you could get this done, it is better than getting a new one in my opinion.

Re: ALTERNATOR

There are tons of places that will re-spin your alternator... look in the yellow pages under cars or auto repair and alternators.

Re: ALTERNATOR

I reccomend Dominick's altenators or Ohio generator. Nothing else.
