General Navigation System Failure

Failure symptoms
There seem to be no electricity in the navigation system. The system does not beep when I start the car, the screen remains blank and the DVD won’t eject. Every other system in the car works fine. But here is the funny part; the navigation system starts after 1 to 3 hours of driving!

How it began
Last Wednesday, I started the car at a temperature of -13F (-25C) and the GPS refused to work, but it surprisingly turned on after an hour on the road. For the rest of the day, it worked fine, even when I got back in the car after my meeting. Yet the day after, it was still refusing to work, but I only drove for a short time and it was still cold outside.

Friday, I left for a 300-mile trip and it took the navigation system 150 miles to work. But again it worked fine for the rest of the day. The same scenario repeated itself Saturday, even though the outside temperature was now above freezing.

My trusted Infiniti technician suggested that I try unplugging the negative pole on the battery to see if it would come back online, which I tried Sunday and it worked… until the next day.

What could the problem be? Is there any step I can take before turning to the shop and let them overcharge me by replacing instead of repairing?

Thanks,
Max

Problem still present

Even if my problem is not solved, I would like to append this thread with the diagnostic access sequence for the Infiniti Nav System.

From the maintenance manual:

1. Start the engine.
2. Push and hold "MAP" and "D/N" switches simultaneously for 5 seconds or more. (Then push the "PREV" switch and the initial system screen will be shown.)
3. The initial trouble diagnosis screen will be shown, and items
"SELF-DIAGNOSIS" and "CONFIRMATION/ADJUSTMENT"will become selective.

Cheers,
Max

Ever find out what was wrong? I have this same problem. It hasn't worked all Winter, but we had a very warm day a couple weeks back and it worked. What gives?

My neighbor has this same issue now. We cannot even eject his Map DVD from the drive. It acts as if the unit has no power to it, but the screen flickers when you start the car.

We took apart his entire dash, double checked all the harnesses and continuity tested the 2 yellow wires behind the Map DVD Drive for 12 volts. The unit seemed to recieve power but just won't power on.

Anyone find a solution to this issue?
