Steering Controls with AVIC-Z1

I have found related threads but am a bit confused...

Does the PAX unit get "Hard Wired" to the Z1...or does it communicate with it via an IR signal????

For steering wheel controls, use the Metra Axxess ASWC.

Hard wired, no programming required, no resistor soldering required... it's great for any unit that's not a X920BT, Z110BT or Z120BT.
