The Passport 8500 has multiple display modes, one of which will tell you the number of signals and their strengths (like a bar graph).

 

Thanks to all. I decided I will invest a portion of my tax return in the V1. V1 has been out for quite some time. I only hope a V2 isnt released too soon after I make this 400 buck purchase.

nah they keep it at v1, but they make upgrades...
for real cheap no matter how old your v1 is they will either upgrade the software in it, or replace it to a newer one!

Yeah, my buddy had his '93 model V-1 upgraded last year. For the upgrade price, they give you a complete new unit with accessories! Hard to beat as it never goes obsolete![img]/w3timages/icons/laugh.gif[/img]

if you don't mind my asking, how much do they charge for the upgrades?

And does it depend on when the upgrade is done from? in other words, did he have to pay more for upgrading for the old '93 firmware, or did it cost the same for that upgrade as it would to upgrade from a.. say 2001 firmware?

The upgrade was $189. Same price I believe as for any major upgrade for any age V-1. New unit, full warranty!

I just installed the new K40 concealed detector(s) with the radar defuser & the only good thing I can say about it is that's stealth! I have been running my old V1 at the same time & the Valentine has .5 mile better range on Ka band & almost a quarter mile better on K band. Fortunately the shop I deal with agreed to take the K40 back if I wasn't happy so my next project is to hardwire the V1!!

 

yeah i've heard a lot of those stealth ones just suck... which I just don't understand since they're usually really expensive, and you figure they'd be in optimal places for the best "reception"

I would love to get one of these things.... but I heard that cops can also detect which cars have radar detectors and theres a bigger fine for that... Is it true that cops can detect which cars have rader detectors in them and if so is there any dectectors out there which can detect the radar detector detector...

 

The V1, as well as some of the other high-end models, are invisible to radar detector detectors.

The Escort Passport 8500 has immunity to VG-2 which is the most popular radar dector detection scheme used by the cops. Depending on you state, it is illegal to have a radar detector. I thought only Viginia, Georgia and Delware banded radar detectors. Does anyone know the other states?

My old college roomate was from Georgia and he always told me radar detectors where illegal there. He might of been wrong.
