Re: Radar detector?

Ive used the K1 system in my other cars for years, and it works great, but its one of the more pricier systems...its also stealth install though, installed in your bumper. Its also the only detector that give you a ticket guaranty...if you get a speeding ticket within 2 years purchase of the system, theyll pay for it.

Re: Radar detector?

I own the Escort Passport 8500. It is every bit as good as the Valetine 1 which is also a good unit. Beyond that you are looking at the Bel 975 or 985. The K40 is a great unit but pricey. If you want to spend about $300 you can't go wrong with the Escort Passort 8500 or Valetine 1.

Check out Radar Busters Test for some great information.

Re: Radar detector?

that radar busters test seemed pretty good overall when compared to numerous user reviews from friends of mine.

the filtering section though... something must be wrong.

"The higher end detectors, such as the units manufactured by Escort and Beltronics have better filtering capabilities that decrease the false alerts substantially."
Then why does BEL have some of the worst scores?

and I *KNOW* that valentine V1 sucks for falses on X-band (unless they came out with some recent firmware to prevent that).

Re: Radar detector?

My #1 complaint about the V1 is it's lack of an auto-mute function. Having to reach up and hit the mute button every single time an alert goes off gets really old. Thankfully, I'll be installing the concealed display in the ashtray sometime this week, so that will be much less of a problem.

Re: Radar detector?

I am sure Radar Busters was referring to the Bel VR-65 and VR-75 when they made the comment regarding higher end units have better filtering capabilities. Before I bought my Escort I borrowed my friends Valentine. It was great but it did false a lot and the cop location system did not work in my car. I wonder if it had anything to do with my titanium tint? That is why I choose the Escort. I plan on buying a Blinder Laser Jammer next.

Re: Radar detector?

many postings on this topic.
one thing good about valentine is that it tells you direction of radar.

Re: Radar detector?

Honestly though, why does the direction matter. If your radar detector beeps, no matter where the cop is your going to slow down.

Re: Radar detector?

no if i know he can't get me because i know where he is then no worries, or even more common you know the location of false alarms this way you don't disregard a beep in an area that usually has a flase alarm but today a cop is there... the v1 would have the arrows going and the cop enumerater would show 2 one cop and one false alarm you already knew about!

Re: Radar detector?

Nothing can compete with the V1. You get the arrows and the counter. I just came back from a long trip (4+ hours) yesterday and got saved by the arrows more than once. One time there was a trooper on the side giving a ticket and his radar was on. After I passed him my arrow went to the rear and I was still showing one signal. A couple of seconds later my counter went to 2 and I had an arrow in front and in back (front was flashing to let you know it was the bigger threat). There was another trooper in the trees hitting people. A regular radar detector would've kept the one strong signal for the trooper that was stopped and you would've never known there was another just in front doing the "instant on" thing.

Re: Radar detector?

tory,
read trents post on why arrows are good. arrows also let you know exactly where, and help tell if it's false or not.
