Phone disconnect when exiting car-Bluetooth

This is definitely a newbie question. My phone is connected via bluetooth, the phone disconnects from my caller when I shut off my engine. Is there way to maintain my conversion and not get disconnected when I leave my car? Thanks.

Might be a per phone thing. Mine switches over to the handset and vice versa on its own. Also, remember that if you press the phone key on the steering wheel and say Privacy Mode or something like that, it switches to the handset anyways.
