Question A/V Upgrade Plans, please help?

1. Background. I have the Bose upgraded audio in my coupe... Long story short... CD ERR FO. Yeah I'm pissed and 65 days out of my warranty period. Thing is, I really like it the way it is. But I AM NOT going to buy another (refurb POS) and face this same issue again in the future. It isn't going to happen. So I have a plan to replace my stuff, please give me your input.

2. Parts List. Here is what I think I need, let me know if I am missing anything. I have the black dash.

-PAC SWI-PS Steering Wheel Audio Control Interface
-Double Din Finisher 68520-AL710 (Black) not sure where I am actually going to get this... JapanParts.com thus far. or the Yosi guy.
-Double Din Bracket Hardware 28038-AL700
-HVAC Controls 27500-AL501
-Antenna Adapter
-Scosche Adapter Nissan/Infiniti Factory Integration Adapter
-Video Bypass (I think I am going to pick up the harness type one off of ebay versus doing the toggle switch thing)

3. Head Unit. Pioneer AVH-P6800DVD 6 Disc DVD/CD In Dash. I like it because it has everything I want and my wife is pretty much unwilling to give up the 6-disc changer. I like it so unless you have any other ideas, I plan on this one.

4. Speakers and Amp... I don't think I want to change this out. I only have about 1 - 1.5k. But I am afraid of the hissing that people complain about. How can I avoid this when I am doing the install?

5. Your honest suggestions... Feel free to criticize.

You're pretty much set.

Here are some DIY's for dash removals. They'll come in handy.

05-07s

https://g35driver.com/forums/audio-video-electronics-diy/90507-diy-06-hu-removall.html

03-04s

https://g35driver.com/forums/questionable-posts/149225-diy-installing-aftermarket-hu.html

if you want to reduce the hissing sound, get this:

http://scosche.com/scosche_caraudio....9&ItemID=SLC-4

you can get it at wal-mart for $20-$25. It'll reduce the hiss down to a point where you can only hear it if you crank your volume to a really low setting. Well worth it.

Good choice with the Pioneer. I've always been a fan of Pioneer. I have the Z1 and the OEM Bose amp and speaker in my car. Just changing the HU, you'll notice a much better sound quality than the OEM Bose HU.

I went through exactly what you are going through. CD ERR FO after warranty up, so I replaced everything. I went with an Alpine head and the ipod hi-speed cable. I liked my 6-disc but now I have 40gig available with touch screen searching.

No Steering wheel controls? Not good... How could it not?

Just got word from PAC Audio that if I buy the SWI-X it will work as long as I buy the remote control which does not come with the Head Unit. The SWI-X works kind of like a homelink system. You push the button on the remote and then hold the switch on the steering wheel and it learns. Very cool. Defineately will be adding that to the list.

yup, the swi-x will work for all decks with a remote. BTW the remote does come with the 6800, I know for sure cause I just installed one last week in my friends car.

Also, you don't need the double-din bracket, you can reuse the stock bracket, just take it off the radio.

Yeah the swi-x does work but then u have to drill a hole somewhere on your console or somehow attach the infrared sensor. But w/ the Z1 and some other HU's, it has the steeringwheel controls input and the SWI-PS hooks right up to it which is sweet.

Can it just be affixed (once programmed) to the back side of the console? Hidden?

Good to know. I won't be buying the bracket then.

the black box can be hidden anywhere, but the LED needs to be installed so there is a line of site towards the decks IR sensor.

You also run into some issues with using the SWI-X on the 6800. For example, to power off the 6800 from the 6800 remote you have to HOLD the power button. The SWI-X is unable to recognize a button being held, so instead it simply sends a quick button PRESS to the 6800, which will not turn it off.

Secondly, the remote control uses two different buttons for changing radio stations and changing CD tracks. So you cannot program the SWI-X to use the single up/down control on the G35 steering wheel control to change both the radio station and the CD tracks.

If I remember correctly I was unable to program the MODE (input) button on the steering wheel control either.

Frankly the SWI-X is a crappy device with laggy response and short-comings in the way of handling remotes that require button HOLDS, have tons of buttons, etc, etc (as described above).

Unfortuantely it seems to be the only product that can give you ANY sort of control from your steering wheel to your AVH-6800DVD.

But I'm warning you, you won't be happy with it. I find myself just reaching over and using the touchscreen, it's convenient enough and was a willing tradeoff for the perks that come with the 6800 (at least for me).

Getting married May 5th and we're driving down to Savannah for the honeymoon. Going to pop a few DVDs into the 6800 and let the wifey watch some movies while I rely heavily on my Escort 9500i
