12v dc question

I have a 12v acctuator that need to be able to open an close which is just the reversing of the polarity. My questions is I have it wired to a switch right now so that I press the switch to open the acctuator and then to close it I press it again. I want this to be linked to the igniton so when I start the car it opens, and when I shut it off, it closes.

open to suggesstions
thanks Danny

Just need to wire it to a switched 12v source and a relay. Got to the12volt.com for more details about relays.

that is what I was thinking, but then how do you limit the power to only go to the acctuator for a certain amount of time as to not burn out the motor after it is fully extended.
(im not sure if that is explained correct. so say that I wired this accuator/relay combo to the ignition. once it is all the way open what can I do so that once it is all the way open that the power will cut out so that it will not ruin the motor)

Most actuators have built in limit switches that will cut power from the motor when the actuator is fully extended. Otherwise, you will need a time delay relay for both the on and off action.

Or, of course, you could use smart electronics to do the job.

Something like a programmable microcontroller or a 'brain' of some sort. I think Dakota Digital sells linear actuator controllers.
