To be clear, a sub does not have one particular magic box volume that works "best" for it-- if you have ever worked with a box building program/simulator then you can see what happens as you vary the airspace of a sealed box-- the smaller the box, the more output in the upper frequencies, more of a steep "hill", then as you increase the box size, the gain curve flattens out and extends down lower, and excursion increases. Bigger boxes generally sound "flatter" and "deeper" and more natural, while smaller boxes generally hit "harder" but don't have the ultra-low response.
Looks like the recommended box volume for a 10w6v2 is .625 cuft, so roughly .8 cuft box minus a huge sub's displacement (.68 cuibes) would actually come out just about right.
I've always been a fan of eBay so long as you're not an idiot and know what to avoid
I would recommend not being afraid of buying a new w6-- if you get the good stuff, it will last you... and JL is still the good stuff.
