I need to gauge interest for a replacement center upper console to install a LCD screen. I have been thinking of way to install a Navi/DVD system without replacing the factory audio system yet still have a "factory" look.

I have designed a console that is OEM looking, but has a space for a 7" diagonal LCD mounted above the HVAC. I want to keep the factory look, steering wheel controls and a high mounted screen for easy and safe viewing.

The expense of the mold and final engineered drawings is expensive, but spread over many units, it is manageable. Any interest, comments, price expectations?

I can get the stock parts for $700. I'd be interested if you can pull it off in $500. I want it to be able to hide away just like the stock can be pushed into the dash. Let me know what you can do. I am working on a project and am planning on getting the OEM parts soon. So if you can show me what you have in mind then I might wait. Thanks.

 

Are you considering a hideaway screen like the stock one or one that is integrated into the console? The problem with buying the OEM hideaway assembly is you have cut-outs for the nav buttons but no buttons to fill them. I remember seeing pics on this forum from a member who fabricated their own console and integrated the screen into it and it looked sweet. I would like to see something more along those lines.

It's designed like the one in the pic. The problem with the hideaway is the motorization, size and OEM navi buttons.

It's just a drawing right now. I am getting a rapid prototype then test then production. I am planning to offer in willow and black - not silver. The silver can be applied by the consumer. Though if interest is high, I will provide the silver. I will keep all of you updated. I have notified SuperG35, he's design is nice. My only concern is glare and LCD size.

Great idea! I'm glad someone is going to put something together for people who want an after market LCD.

If you want my opinion, I think a retractable screen is much better than a fixed one for glare and security reasons. also just much cooler to have it open and close.

(doesn't matter HOW it opens. whether flips up and down or slides in and out)

but deifinitely please try to keep the cost down. I am hoping to set up a carputer in the trunk as well. good luck!

Great. I hope to have a finished final product soon. With my travel for work and getting the prototype produced/tested, it will take a few weeks.

On a side note, the sedan and coupe uper consoles appear to be the same inside and out, any confirmations?
