myG35ZX:

The exterior is definitely the same. and I am willing to bet that interior is same as well.

Please post more details on your progress as I'm sure lots of people want to know how things are going.
eg. will the screen be motorized/spring loaded?
please make the console in Titanium colour as I think that is the most common.

on second thought, couldn't you just take an OEM console and copy it? I'm sure those frames do not cost much to produce. and at the same time you could make the face WITHOUT holes for the nav buttons. then that would be PERFECT for everyone who wants a screen but didn't buy Navi.

Re: New console for Screen

My G35ZX.
I would be interested to see what you come up with. I've got my car PC al togther and am looking for non-hacked looking ways to integrate a 7" XGA. I prefer a pop out (manual is fine), but fixed mount is cool also as long as it looks really OEM. I have a contrary opinion about the smooth flushed in design shown in this link. I think it would look better with a few well placed "trim lines", creases etc. I can easily tell that these "melted smooth" curves were hand laid and not factory or form molded. It's looks "good" just not "flawless" IMHO, and since this thing is in central view all of the time , imperfections would be very noticeable.

Re: New console for Screen

Thats what is taking the time. ALong with the buttons from the Xenarc. The cad guy is drawing it up. I would like to flip the screen and mount the buttons at the top. This is no problem if the buyer is using a PC, the problem is with the DVD user. I can't find hardware to flip the image. Any idea?

As for motorizing. I tried. I really tried. The problem is finding the mechanicals to do it and stuffing them in the pocket with the screen. If I could find a complete nav system screen display out of a G, I could "copy it", but to date I am unable to find one.

Re: New console for Screen

well the guys who are doing the Group Buy for the Nav console is paying $650 from a dealer. of course it'd be much better if we could just "borrow" somebody's dash console for a little while.

Anyway, please keep us up to date! this is getting pretty exciting!

Re: New console for Screen

Not really the whole console. They do not get the motor, and end up with the wholes for the OEM nav - useless and ugly. Also, a smaller screen, and it blocks the clock and it is manual. I want a perminent mount OEM look and large screen. Pricing will be dictated by quantities. But atleast three screens from Xenarc will work.

Now, if I could borrow the motor assembly, I could possibly copy it, but I bet the cost is too much for most people. My plan is $2000 for a complete setup - inlcuding the console.

Re: New console for Screen

$2000???? sure hope that was a typo..

anyway, here is the info on the OEM group buy, just FYI.

Display Assembly - (the spring loaded mechanism) - $529.62
Screw Kit - screws necessary for the whole kit) - $14.07
Navigation Finisher - the thing that holds the screen - $15.11
Switch Assembly - The button that goes on top of the lcd - $20.15
Lid Assembly - The whole console fitted for the navigation - $116.26

Total for this - $695.21+tax+shipping

as for the holes for the navi buttons, I would think it's pretty easy to just bondo over them or cut the cubby lid to the same size and use that instead.

Re: New console for Screen

$2000 for my whole setup - screen, computer and console isn't alot and is not a typo. I want quality in my G. As far as the screen, I would not supply anything other than the console ($350-500 depending on quantity we have order).

I may endup scrapping my plans. Two many people want to many different consoles and I can't afford $7000 molds for everybody. A single console for me may be the ticket.

The downside to the OEM is frankly it looks out of place when up. I would want it viewable when I am driving. And at $700 plus shipping, bondo and painting its steep and fugly.

Good luck with your screen and please do not hijack my next thread.

Re: New console for Screen

ok, that's pretty much the budget I have for my setup as well. I just thought you meatn $2000 for just the console.

I think $350 - $500 is quite reasonable. and if you say you want it to look good for the G, then I will trust you with whatever you go with. I just wanted to give some input and throw some ideas around.

also, take your time with the design, since I am waiting for the Blitzsafe AUX input adapter anyway. (since I am planning to keep my bose radio and add a computer in the trunk)

thanks & good luck.

Re: New console for Screen

any updates to this myG35ZX?
the only thing hold me back from my carputer right now is the screen mounting...
if worse comes to worse I will try to do what god_of_cpu did and hope that my grade 10 shop skills will come back to me...

Re: New console for Screen

I have been unable to find a screen that works well. The xenarc has a beautiful display, but the buttons hinder a oem install appearance. Mounting the screen upright or nearly upright causes the console to be about 1 inch higher than what would look nice. After several drawings, I have given up. The draftsman was quick and would change things as I said them, but the console looked aftermarket. For the cost of the mold, I want it to look great.

At this time, I am stumped. With any luck the factory setup will come down in price or the new interior will have a different setup. If nothing else, I will ripout the OEM stereo and install a complete Carputer with the screen just below the cubby and the hvac controls below that. This would, ata minimum, involve a new hvac control and custom finisher work - though it could be repeatable and less expensive. Downside is the loss of the steering wheel controls.

Sorry. I will keep looking.

Re: New console for Screen

have a look at the touch screen kit from www.digitalww.com.
many people have used this screen and it is slightly cheaper than the Xenarc.

you might have an easier time mounting that one.

Re: New console for Screen

Thanks. I will call and ask about the Panasonic - seems smaller.
