Possible Car Audio Setup

I want to start by establishing that I have very limited (read: almost zero) car audio knowledge. I've been doing some research and I just wanted to get some input from knowledgeable people who aren't trying to sell me things.

After looking around I think I'm going to go with 2 Alpine SWR-1042D subs and a Alpine PDX-1.600 - 600W Amp.

One car audio place I went to told me they could build two custom boxes (one for each side of the trunk) for a total of $450 (including material) plus install everything for the following prices:

4 Gauge Amp Kit $80
LCI (Volume Control) $18
LC502CL (???) $20
RCA's $34
Amp Install $100
Dynamat the trunk lid $40

Does this sound like a solid setup?
Will the amp be enough power for the subs?
Is this car audio place trying to rip me on prices/labor?

Any input would be very much appreciated, thank you

That amp will power the two Alpine subs fine, but a PDX-1.1000 would do a better job.

It seems you are going to use the stock head unit. That's fine but you don't need a line converter if you have the Bose system.
The rest of the prices seem pretty good, especially the custon boxes.

I'm glad to hear that the custom box's sound right.

I was actually close to buying this:

I wasn't sure of what the sound quality would be like, someone told me that with both speakers sharing the same space it would affect the way that they hit.

You definately want to run the PDX-1.1000. You will also need alot more dynamat than just the trunk lid. Labor seems to be very fair.

Not knowing how your audio shop will build the sub enclosures, you can also use 4080's box as a backup. They have been field tested by numerous G owners and the sound and build quality is top notch. They have 10" enclosures that go on both sides of the trunk without any trunk modifications and can be removed in seconds.

I did a custom box for my own install because of my JL 10W7, but if 4080 had released the boxes back then, I would most likely be pushing 2 x 10W6s with his enclosures instead.

Good luck!

Good prices... I would also use a 1000.1 for your subs unless you are on a budget.

This is the issue...

Due to my budget I've come to the realization that I can either go with the PDX-1.1000 or with the custom boxes.

My instinct is to go with the amp but my only other box option is to go with the ZEnclosure.

I searched through some of the threads but didn't get the answers I was looking for concerning the quality of the box.

So, should I skimp on the Amp or skimp on the box?

The Zenclosure box on the ebay link is listed at .80 ft^3 total for two 10" subs. Review the volume requirements for each 10W6v2 on JL's site. I think you will see a significant volume deficit. Each 10W6v2 requires .625 ft^3 of volume in a sealed enclosure. That's 1.25 ft^3 for both. Each sub also takes up .068 ft^3 inside the enclosure. That's .136 ft^3 (if you are OCD) to be added to the total volume requirements for the enclosure. At .8 ft^3 for the Zen, I think you will need to rethink your sub choices to lower power subs or look for a new box solution.

Good Luck!

Well luck smiled on me and a friend was able to get me a brand new Rockford Fosgate P1000-1BD for a VERY reasonable price. I just ordered the 2 Alpine SWR-1042D 10" subs.

Due to the great deal on the Amp, I'm thinking about going for broke on the box and going with 4080's enclosures.

Any thoughts?
