Question Radar Hard Wire Questions

Hey guys,

I was thinking about getting a radar detector and wanted to hard wire it to the rear view mirror. Here's the problem, the mirror that I have does not have the homelink/auto dim on it. It's just the base model rear view mirror. My question is, can I still do the hard wire using the Invisicord or do I have to have the rear view mirror with homelink?

if they answer is NO, you can do it without the homelink mirror, then I'm good, however, if I need to get that, how much should I expect to pay for the homelink mirror and how much to have it installed (if it's something I can't do myself)?

thanks in advance!

I just bought the hard wire kit for my detector, connected it to s switched fuse at the fuse panel, and ran the power wire up the A pillar under the cover and tucked it under the headliner. To the mirror. I actually started at the mirror so all the excess wire would be at the kick panel.

I bet that you wire harness is same as all the other Gs the only diff is your mirror. So I suggest look under the headliner for the connector for the mirror and hook it up through that.

I used a test light at the fuse panel. Littelfuse makes mini fuse panel taps that plug into the fuse box in place of a fuse. It provides protection to the main fuse and adds a wire pigtail that is also fused (on a separate fuse) that you can then connect to the device of your choice.

Good call Gilley, that is a nice little schindig -

I know I'm digging this up, but did you have a Homelink mirror from factory, Gilley?

Also, with the homelink mirror, does it have to remain on a hot wire to maintain/remember the signal? or can I attach that one to an ignition-switchable wire as well?

Thanks Gilley and everyone else!

Adrian

Yes, I have a Homelink mirror. I decided to run the power from the fuse panel so I could put the remote control on top of the steering column so the alert light is more visible.

after about a year of using the v1 with the hardwire i could not find the
'right' location on the glass.. ended up using the coil harness and mounting
it right above the cluster on the glass. bestest position yet.

not fond of the bulky mirror adapter either.

I don't remember what fuse I used, but a 5 amp would be plenty. Check the fuse rating in the plug in power supply and use at least that rating.

Good info here.

When you take apart the radar detector's cigg plug, which wire is positive and which is negative? The one leading to the sides or to the tip contact?
