Front door speaker replacement?

OK, sorry to ask this but I was going to buy some Polk Audio to put in the car and the guys at the shop are telling me that I need an amp to run the speakers because of the bose system...I read some of the previous posts but those are from 2005 bose...

I had a guy tell me its okay and another says you need to bypass the amp...I already have a sub hooked up already that is going thru a HI-low converter...I just want to clean up the front. Do I really need to get another amp to power the fronts? I remember a member here installed a set of polk but I don't remember if he bypassed the amp...

The Bose speakers are 2 ohm. Those Polks are 4 ohm. You can replace the Bose speakers with the Polks and they will work, but they won't be as loud.

If you want the same level of volume, find some 2 ohm speakers (Infinity makes several sets) and run them off the Bose amp, or get the Polks and you will need a new amp to bypass the Bose amp.

BTW, how is your sub amp connected into the Bose system? Does your sub amp get its signal before or after it goes through the Bose amp?

It's after the bose amp from the one of the rear speaker...Not the best but fidelity is not really needed for subs I guess...Thanks for the response...So, I need an amp...Should, I get the signal before the amp or after the amp for the front speakers?

You don't necessarily need anotehr amp if you go with the 2 ohm speakers, but an amp will be better than the Bose amp.

You should tap into the audio signal for BOTH amps before it enters the Bose amp. The Bose amp adds EQ and does not increase the bass level beyond a certain volume point, which is not what you want with a sub. Those reasons are why the Bose amp isn't good.

kill the stereo, i gutted my fronts with jl zr's and polk pro in the rears...people will tell you the rear is just fill but you will hear a major difference in sound over the stock if you replace all four...as for amps its best you get an amp that can properly power the speakers
