speaker question
hey, im in the process of upgrading my audio system. i have a 10" idmax powered by zapco reference 750.2 i know for sure that im not going to change the headunit but as for speakers, i was wondering if anyone here is just using front components and no rears. i was thinking about just getting a two channel amp with two good components, but not sure how it will sound without the rear speakers. can anyone help me? thanks, danny

Quite a few people run a sub and front speakers. I have faded my system to the front only and it sounds good. I keep the fronts at about 75% and the rear at 25%.
So, yes, you can run just the front speakers with good results. You can also leave the rear speakers connected to the OEM HU in case you want a little rear fill.

I'm running front stage only. I think it sounds better. I tried playing around with rear fill but it tended to drag the mid-bass to the rear. The imaging is much better with front speakers only. You do tend to lose a bit of the full suround sound but having the stage solidly up front is better to my ears. Get a good set of comps up front and a nice sub, it's all you really need. I've got a Alpine PDX2.150 (150wpc) running a set of Polk SR6500 in stock locations.

Ok, first off it hurts my audiophile innards to see you keep the factory HU while running such good amps as the Zapco Reference series. I would highly suggest you look into upgrading the HU, you will get such better SQ. But anyway I think the system in the G sounds better only using the front speakers. It maintains a much more accurate center image. Usually people utilize rear speakers for a sort of fill to bring the center image into focus, but for some reason the designers over at Nissan managed to make the system sound worse with the rear fill than without. Good luck on your setup, do you need recomendations for speakers? If so what is your price range?

ic. yea i know that the HU will make a big difference, but its just something i dont want to change at the moment. as for speakers, im looking at gettin maybe a 2 channel zapco to power two Image dynamic cxs components (i think thats the name..sumtin with a c) haha but yeah thats wat im aiming at right now. i might change out the HU later...the thing is...if i change out the HU i want to do a DD conversion and that will cost ALOT...

That is a very good set of speakers and matching amplifiers. Zapco has been a standard name in the car stereo competition market for years for a good reason, they sound great. Just remember, if you are spending the money on those amps, why not pay the extra 300 for the DD conversion, and another 300-500 on the HU? Good luck on your system!
