Hooking up Bose Sub to aftermarket amp

Just curious; as I haven't decided what I want to install for a sub-woofer, (but I have bought a JL Audio 300/2 amp to power it!) can I hook up the JL amp to the stock Blose sub without risking damage to the amp? I have 4 component sets and another JL amp (300/4) for the doors, so I'd just as soon scrap the Blose amp.

Yes you can hook up an aftermarket amp to the factory sub, but the sub is a very poorly made sub and will distort the sound or blow if you put to much power into it. The entire depth of the sub from the top to bottom including the magnet is about 2". I would not be surprised if it blows at a 100 watts.

Re: Hooking up Bose Sub to aftermarket amp

I guess I'll have to keep the gain on the amp way down until decide what sub to get. I really need to remove all the trim from the rear deck and take a close look at everything under there to see what will fit, as whatever I do, it will be mounted on the rear deck, not a seperate box. Hopefully, I can figure out a way to use the rear deck location and still use an enclosure; there aren't too many options for free air subs.

I'm curious, where is everyone installing their amps?

In my sedan, I plan on mounting my two JL amps (a 300/4 and a 300/2) vertically on the rear of the back seat; one on each side of the pass through. JL is not too thrilled with this orientation as far as heat dissapation is concerned, but I NEED my pass through for hockey sticks and skis. One of the main reasons I didn't go for a larger sub amp like the 500/1 was that it's too long to mount in this way; I'd have to give up the pass through or some other area of the trunk.

Re: Hooking up Bose Sub to aftermarket amp

Where are you tapping into for the amp? I have a sedan, regular stereo, not premium. Doing components, amp and sub. Thanks.
