CHECK OUT: Car Computer Started
Re: CHECK OUT: Car Computer Started
Hi, Can you please post some information where did you purchased the screen from (any site for gain or phone # is appreciated). Also, how much did the housing cost you, and exactly what part #'s were ordered. Also, where exactly do you plan to mount this? Thanks
Re: CHECK OUT: Car Computer Started
I got the housing from Infiniti. I am going to mount this in the spring loaded mechanism that should be here from Japan in about 2 weeks. These are the parts that are used in the stock navi. My car doesn't have the navi so I am retrofiting my screen into the OEM housing. I got the screen from www.digitalww.com. I don't have the model # for the screen but it's the only open panel screen they sell also it sells for $380. I currently don't have the part #'s with me but look up a thread that I started for the group buy for the stock navi parts in the audio section, all the part #'s are in there. I'll have the rest of the specs for my project when I'm done. Thanks.

Re: CHECK OUT: Car Computer Started
the screen i got is not a perfect fit into the housing, I had to dremel out the sides and a little off the top and bottom. I don't have pics of that yet. I don't know if the lcd finisher will fit into the mechanism because I don't have it yet. 2 more weeks before that comes in. I say this because I dremeled out a lot and I don't know if I took off soemthing important. I did have to cut off the place where 2 screws would go but I'm guessing they were there to hold the stock screen in place and I'm using my own screen and my own method of holding the screen in place (some strong glue probably). I'm powering the screen off of my computer's power supply. The power supply is also specia. It's made by Opus Solutions and it's a DC-DC power supply with many special featuer. It turns the computer on automatically when the ignition is switched on and it can be programmed to turn off 10 seconds, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, or 60 minutes after the ignition is turned off. The programming is easy, it's just a set of jumpers that you have to move around. If you have anymore questions then ask. Thanks.

Re: CHECK OUT: Car Computer Started
I'm taking pics as I work on this thing and I plan on doing a write up when everything is done. I just finished a small video that shows how the computer works. If anyone knows how I can put 12 mb video on the web then please let me know. I'll be more then happy to share. Thanks.

Re: CHECK OUT: Car Computer Started
OK I got it uploaded. The quality might be a little bad because I had to make the file seize shorter, and also it's off of geocities so they might take it off soon. If it stops working then let me know and I'll try to figure something out. Also Let me know what you guys think so far. Thanks.

Re: CHECK OUT: Car Computer Started
so your screen is fitting after dremelling. I was just wondering if you can take a picture of the screen inside the housing, i just need to see what i will have to dremel out and exactly how this screen fits in the housing. This would be awesome if you can do that
Re: CHECK OUT: Car Computer Started
nice vid!!
this leads to a few more questions:
1. how will you power the screen itself? (if it's gonna be directly to the battery, will you need a separate relay/switch?)
2. where did you get that software for browsing and playing music/movies etc?
3. how do you plan on hooking the sound card to the sound system?
PS - Good Luck with the install!

JspecG35 - I'll try to host it somewhere else. If anyone has any ideas then please let me know. I'll have more videos soon. I can make a video of me dremeling out the lcd finisher. I kinda messed up on the one I worked on recently and dug a little to deep, so I will have to do another.
icontractor- I'll get you a pic of the lcd finisher soon. I did mess up on it, but you get the idea.

1.) Currently the screen is powered off of the computer Power supply. I made a custom cable that connects the screen to one of the Hard Drive Power cable inside the computer. Right now the computer is running on a AC-DC Power supply that came with the computer. The first pic in this thread is of a power supply that I will be using. It is a DC-DC power suppy which will also power my screen. One of the posts on this thread is about the Power supply. It's made by Opus (www.opussolutions.com).
2.) The software that I showed in the video is MediaEngine. I think the website for that is mediaengine.org. I'm not sure if that's the software I want to use in my car yet. I'm experiementing with it right now.
3.) The sound car I used is a Creative Soundblaster MP3+ (external USB sound card). Sound Quality is great. I bought a 16' Monster Cable that will run to the factory deck and I will hook that up to the PAC box that will be out soon. Still waiting on that.
Thanks for the comments
