remote start - python??

anybody have experiences with the python 881 2-way alarm? the installer said he wouldn't have to dismantle my dash. is this true? hopefully you guys can chime in on what your opinion is on the best remote start alarm.

i'm located in san diego and have a coupe 5AT. thanks for any feedback.

An experience alarm technician would most likely install the alarm around the steering column area. I have the 791 Viper which is essentially the same system..........great alarm. Just curious, do you have an automatic or 6mt?

Re: remote start - python??

wil,

i have an auto. i just got my compustar 2wss installed yesterday and i love the damn thing. im glad theres a menu for all the key combinations on the back of the keyfob, because there is just too many to memorize.

it was a 7 hour install. 1 hour of which was waiting for the correct wire sheet to be emailed in. he had to take apart the driver's underside dash, steering wheel column enclosure, and the driver's side door.

alarm install included remote start, tilt sensor, "knock knock" sensor (hope friends don't mess with me too much), window up / down, and trunk pop.

flex, nice choice on the compustar... I'm looking into getting that myself. If you don't mind my asking, where did you buy, and how much?

The only place I've found to buy online has been ebay.. for approx $260. Not installed of course... but I plan on *trying* to install it myself.

Re: remote start - python??

since you have a manual...looks like it should be compustar for you. it is a nice unit. i got it installed at a local shop in san diego. about 700. i think the cheapest i've seen the system online is 250 +shipping.

after seeing his frustration and bloody hand, i didn't mind at all paying what i paid. i just dont do alarms. i'll do everything else on my car but mess with any of the circuitry.

he did an excellent install. everything looks factory. wires are all hidden and taped / zipped up. he didn't have to drill any holes through the firewall or the door jamb. i have the wiring info for our car...so let me know if you need it. let me know if you have any other questions.

another note, get the spread spectrum unit. this thing is amazing. the range is ridiculous. i have a detached garage (live in a condo). it's literally a couple hundred feet away and i'm on the 2nd floor, and it still reaches from my bedroom. which does NOT have a clear line of sight to the garage.

Re: remote start - python??

thanks for getting back to me, please check your PM's.

And yeah, I know what you mean about being scared to fiddle with the circuits in this car.. It'd take me a long *** time to do this thing... much more than the 7 hours it took your installer.. but I think it'd be a fun project.

Thanks again.

Re: remote start - python??

Yes, I do have remote start. Easy to install? Hmmm.....it really depends on your knowledge of alarms / electricals. I do this for a living, so it's hard for me to say if it's easy...........but compared to a Civic, yes, the G35 is harder. 2nd thing you should consider is whether you have an auto or 6mt. I've had the alarm since September and have sourced out a neutral safety wire to prevent accidental start when the vehicle's in gear. But be careful when testing for this wire in the ECU as you could easily short it out.
