G-Tech or like accelerometers

Does anyone have pics of where they mounted an accelerometer in their car? Kinds you are using would be great help as well !

Re: G-Tech or like accelerometers

The G-tech mounts to the windshield with a suction cup. I'll take pics when mine comes in next week. I've seen some non-navi cars with one mounted in there as well.

Here's a pic of the G-Timer from another thread.

So is it worthwhile getting one of these? Or is it just a toy that you'll get bored with in a few weeks? What's better, the G-Timer or the G-Tech?

I see the G-Tech Pro (not the Comp medel) going for $49.95! G-Tech Pro

It looks like a good deal, but I was wondering if the Comp or the Passport would be better and more accurate? Anyone know?

Thinking I'll go with the Passport.. Looks more accurate and more attractive sitting in the window.

Should have rephrased that hehe... From what I have read it appears to provide more accurate readings vs other models

Re: G-Tech or like accelerometers

I reviewed data on the Bel, Passport, G-tech, and a few others, and they all use the same basic measurement technique and same method of analysis. The performance of the top three were nearly identical. The G-tech Pro Competition model offers a far superior user interface as well as some related options the others can't provide due to the big LCD on the G-tech.

They all do the same thing the same way, the G-tech is just the slickest and easiest to use with the most bells and whistles. It also costs ~$250. Mine will be here next week. I'll post pics and results after initial testing.

Re: G-Tech or like accelerometers

My G-Tech Pro has worked great for two years - unfortunatley I paid a lot more than $49.95 for it!! It provides basic data, like 0-60, 1/4 mile ET and mph, braking distance from 60 mph and lateral acceleration. For the guy on a budget it is great, but if I didn't already have one I'd probably get the new Competition model since it delivers so much more - 60 ft time, 1/8 mile ET/mpg, etc. etc.

What any of them do is allow you to do accurate comparison tests before and after mods to see their effect. There are a few things to watch on ALL of them however. You MUST do the test on the same piece of road, and the road must be level and flat - otherwise the accelerometer can/will give inaccurate readings. Too, temperature will effect the power and traction, so try to make comparison runs on similar days.

Re: G-Tech or like accelerometers

Well, I was just browsing at the local Future Shop (owned by Best Buy) and they had a Passport GT2 on the clearance table for $200 CDN (~$155 USD). Thought it was a pretty good deal, so I picked it up. Haven't decided if I'll keep it or not yet, and I have 30 days to return it. Can it be had for less anywhere else?

Re: G-Tech or like accelerometers

The accuracy of a GTech depends heavily on how well you calibrate it. I've had my GTech give me times within .1 seconds of what I did at the track. I've also had it tell me that my G runs a 11.7 second 1/4 mile (right after I installed my grounding kit). I'm guessing that one was off by more than a .1 of a second. You also need a perfectly level road to use it on, which is not an easy thing to find hereabouts. But the one thing you can count on is that if you do two runs on the same stretch of road under the same weather conditions, the difference in the two times will be accurate. So it's very useful for testing mods, but not very useful for establishing bragging rights.
