New HU sounds terrible

I just got an eclipse AVN 5510 installed in my 04 G35 Coupe with the factory Bose system. I also got the Eclipse Ipod adapter and steering wheel control that plugs directly into the HU. But the sound quality in the car has diminished greatly. There is little to no base no matter how i set the equalizer settings. And for some strange reason my trunk switch doesn't work anymore (I checked in the glove box to make sure its on and it is....).

I had all this done at a respected local shop and I am completely unhappy with the "upgrade"

Does anyone know how to fix any of these problems, or what else I will need to get to make it sound better than stock with the Eclipse HU? Thanks, I would really appreciate any help.

i have long said just swapping a headunit into a bose system, will net you at the very BEST, similar as stock sound quality, but in most cases, worse than stock sound (this varies from HU to HU), and you may get a lot of background hiss depending on if they used an adapter or not...

solution to get any better sq is compelte swap of amp and speakres...

Hu

There is no hiss or anything like that, but I have no idea why my trunk button doesnt work anymore...

What kind of speakers would u recommend? From just looking around on the forum is seems that a lot of people are using Infinity Kappas. What all would I need to replace? And what about the rear deck speakers? Are they speakers or do they just put out bass? Thanks for the help.

I just installed a new HU my self, a Pioneer D3 with a bose system. I also used the metra wire harness. and the sound is amazing. It's surprising, it sounds a lot better than stock. The treble got higher, and the bass, got a little lower.

You swapped out the most difficult part of the stereo. Might as well get rid of the blose amp and get yourself a real amp.

trunk button can be controlled from a switch in the glove box.

Tried the trunk switch in the glove box....still doesn't work....

Is there anyway to amplify the stock speakers or no because because they all have there own amplifiers?

This is the analogy I use for people who just want to swap out HU.....

If you have a Ford Escort (our stock Bose/non-Bose system) with crappy tires (crappy stock speakers) and you replace the stock Ford motor (our stock HU) with a better motor (aftermarket HU), the Escort's ride is not necessarily better b/c you still have the thin stock tires (crappy stock speakers).

The stock system and its speakers already have poor sound quality mostly IMO due to the stock speakers (just look at how wafer thin they are and how small the magnets are) So, if you swap out the HU for a better one, you'll just still have the crappy sound quality (only it will be lounder!!!) since it still has to go through the stock speakers.

You probably would have seen a better improvement in sound quality keeping the stock HU and changing out the amp and stock speakers with aftermarkets using basic LOCs or the newer generation, more expensive EQ LOCs.

my $0.02

Again, my personal opinion....

do good research on components, save, save, save your $$$.
THEN.....

Do the upgrade ALL at once!!!!!!!!

Overall, you'll save money and headache trying to tweak the system over and over again by doing incremental upgrades to get it to sound better.

History seems to repeat itself and we always hear stories of those who are not satisfied with their incremental upgrades who eventually do an entire upgrade anyway but end up spending more $$ in the end. I've been there and done that.

I installed a Z1 myself as well and I love the sound of it. Much better than the OEM unit.

When they installed it, they probably pulled the plug that goes into the switch in order to get the glove box out of the way. I would remove the glove box and check to see that the wire is connected behind the switch.

If you want to keep your Bose Amp (you'll get even better sound), go with a pioneer unit.
