I was told by a friend of mine that there is an aftermarket bezel that can allow the mounting of a din-sized radio in place of the factory radio? Dunno if this is nonsense of not, but maybe someone out there knows and I'm just clueless?

It's complicated. Read this thread:

Re: Radio/AC Bezel
Yes, it is kinda complicated. That thread should cover most of it. Here's the short overview:

1) The "double-din" console is available from Japan, with a double-din size hole instead of the Bose. Pay attention to part numbers for color and for nav/no-nav.

2) However, the stock radio and A/C controls are integrated on a single circuit board. You need to also order the A/C controls from Japan.

3) If you have dual-climate now, you'll have to do a little soldering work to keep it, the A/C board from japan has the functionality, but not the physical button for it.

That thread goes into more detail.

Re: Radio/AC Bezel
I saw this setup on Ebay for $475.... is this right? Or can I get it cheaper by ordering it from the G35driver Japan connection, haha! I think I read something about $363 shipped? Any info would be beneficial, thanks!

Hey,

see my thread for the details on the v35 dash pieces from J's Garage in Japan. You could get this "kit" w/o the blank bracket and the dash pocket and save another $15. PM me if you have any questions.
