To Buy A Navi or Not????
To Buy A Navi or Not????
I'm currently in the market for buying a new g35 sedan. But my dilema is wheather to buy the car with navi or not.
The reason for purchasing the Navi would be to later convert it so that I can play dvd's.
But after doing some research here, I have found quite a few people with a after market monitor also playing dvd's.
Which way would be the simpliest without to much modification? I had a Acura Integra GSR modded up, and I spent a lot of time on it. I want to avoid all the hassels or problems w/ each modification. Which would you recommend and can you give me your personal opinion and experiences?
Thanks

Re: To Buy A Navi or Not????
$2000 seems like a lot just for the pop-up monitor so you can later convert it to DVD's. Especially if you're not interested in the Nav function itself. I imagine many of those aftermarket screens have a better quality picture display for movies, too.
That being said, I have the navigation on my stock sedan. I don't intend to convert it to play DVD's. I like the navigation feature, and I'm glad I got it.

Buy it! It makes everything you think you wont do (you may not now...) easier later. Trust me. People are spending bucks to get just the screen - not motorized. In addition, I miss being told were to go.

Re: To Buy A Navi or Not????
if your main concern is to play movies... don't get the car with navi.
The splicing kit or whatever to hack into the factory nav's rgb wire and add inputs is like $500 or something from http://www.avelectronic.com
I could have sworn it used to be like $300.. but now it's showing up for that price.. or is that a different product?
Either way, it'll cost a lot of money... while a CHEAP 7" screen can go for as little as $150.. a really nice one can go for as much as $400.
If you want to have fun (in my opinion at least) installing this thing, and you want to spend much much less, and don't mind a lack of a navigation, go for the aftermarket LCD.
If you really want NAVI, don't mind the $2000 for it, and then some for the RGB switch or whatever, then yeah go for the factory navi.
Personally, I chose no-nav, and to do a carputer. But I can easily understand why most people's opinions are different.

Buy it. I installed my own screen and I can tell you from experience that having the screen integrated with the car would if nothing else make your life easier. It is possible to setup a cheap screen for less money but if you want a nice looking install you will not be able to do it for much less. If you don't get it and later change your mind you will be looking at $6000 instead of $2000 for the OEM NAV.
