Navigation System

I am planning on buying a G35x and I have not decided if I should buy the navigation system. I know that the unit in the Honda/Acura line is excellent. However, I don't know a thing about the Infiniti unit. Can you help me out?

Thanks

Re: Navigation System

It's great- get it if you can afford it. I'm not sure what your priorities are with it, so I don't know where to direct my response, but I can assure you that no one I know with it says "I wish I hadn't gotten it". And I know some obstreperous people.

Re: Navigation System

I love my nav.

Anyone else with it realize that they don't have Post Office locations in it? I really needed that today but no luck.

Re: Navigation System

Did you check out POIs, then type "Post Office"? Works for me... maybe it was US Post Office... I forget.

Re: Navigation System

Might not be in POI, but perhaps in the business listings by name.

Re: Navigation System

It is an effective and capable system. While some prefer the Acura system, it is probably better than just about ever other system on the market. You couldn't touch a good aftermarket system for the same money when you consider the complexities of a custom install; and it would probably be inferior.

I've always had a great sense of direction, and never really had a problem getting lost; but this system gives you a lot of advantages on the road. It has helped me to find new routes to places I was very familiar with; it has helped me find detours around traffic in an unfamiliar area; and several times a week, it saves me the bother of using Mapquest or Yahoo Maps.

Re: Navigation System

There is one feature I wish it had, though...

Let's say I'm in an unfamiliar place and want to find a McDonalds. The darn thing lists every single one in the friggin' city, and doesn't seem to be able to sort them by distance to where-I-am-now. There's, of course, the fast food lookup.. but what if there are 5 other places closer than the nearest McD's? (Just using them as an example, I don't usually crave that particular place.)

Re: Navigation System

Kind of along the same lines...I accidentally added a customer defined quick stop, anybody know how to delete it from the list? I was messing around and selected ATM, now when I select quick stop, I get 2 ATM's listed. Thanks.

Re: Navigation System

You can't delete it, but there are 4 preset and 1 user-defined setting. Just select a different item from the list. Pick Infiniti Dealer if you can't come up with anything better.

Re: Navigation System

Thanks for the info. That's what I was thinking but thought I'd run it by the local experts here. Thank again!

Re: Navigation System

Yes, I confirmed that Post Offices are in the POI database. I searched under the category "All" within a particular city, and they all showed up!
