I need help from someone who knows about installing car stereo equipment.

Hello

alot of you know me from this site as trading my 07 g35S 6mt fully loaded for a 2005 honda accord ex-L automatic 4 cyl ( i know your lol, find the thread and u will understand).

I recently had an old box and amp I had laying around installed in the accord. The amp is an old model mtx thunder 81000D amp, its a 1000 watt x 1 channel or 500 x 2. The sub was a 10 inch rockford fosgate power hx-2 with 2000 peak power and a 1000 watt rms. After it was installed it sounded great, could not put the bass up more then 2 on my stock H/U or you would get distortion from the sub. I figured this was from the gain being up to high, so no prob. After about 20 min, the sub stopped hitting completly. I went to the installer the next day and he told me the sub was shot. I have used this sub for quite sometime with no problem on that amp setup and everything was well. I gave him the benifit of the doubt because the sub has been laying around for at least 3 years or better (not sure if that could have any affect though).

My question is could he have done something wrong wiring wise to kill this sub or is it simply just because its old. I remember him saying something about he couldnt find stereo imputs on my amp, but he did something that wired it up for stereo. Problem is i researched the specs on my amp and its a mono block only amp. Could him doing whatever he did to make it "stereo" have caused this problem, and can this cause any other damage. I purchased another sub, its on its way and I will be receiving it monday. Rockford fosgate, p21004, 800 peak, 1600 rms dual 4 ohm voice coil. So Ill wire it 2ohms per coil.

Thanks for the help.
Rocco

you could have melted a voice coil from running it too high with too much distortion
