Bose System - Amp Replacement

I've searched the forums, but haven't really found my answer yet....

Is it possible to just replace the amp in the bose system? I don't want to replace the speakers (yet), but would like an after market amp with a little more punch. I guess there's not an amp that's pretty much "plug and replace"??

I probably won't do the work myself...but was curious what options there were. Sorry, but I'm a car audio system idiot and don't know all the technical stuff.

What do you recommend that's pretty easy (doesn't have to be cheap). I'm a little leary about a shop taking off my door panels and stuff...seems like in the past when I've had speakers replaced in the doors....rattles seem to pop up!

Thanks in advance

My understanding is that amp replacement is pretty easy, but the Bose speakers will not be able to handle the rms that a new amp will put out. Also, be aware that Bose speakers are 2 ohm.

The way the system is designed, it'd be pointless to change the amp on the stock speakers. The amp is calibrated to push the stockers to capacity without overloading them. I think the base amp is rate at 394 watts which is pretty impressive for a stock setup.

If you want to change the amp, you could tap the audio inputs from the headunit by splicing the cables and converting them to rca inputs to get a front and rear input. This will power a 4 channel amp, but your left with a center channel and the rear sub. The rear sub you many be able to run in line with the rear door speakers but you'd have to rewire, plus check for the resistance.

Also the SOW system has custom designed speakers especially the 10" inverted woofers in the front doors. I did always wonder if a slimline pionneer 10" would fit. Your next option would be to put in a 3 ways set in the doors with a 7" woofer.

If you want more bass, just tap the rear channels, add a second amp and woofer in the trunk. Makes a big difference, had this, but then melted my coils again by overloading them (im not good at tuning)
